Randy Yard:
There's a fine line between "homage" and "ripoff," and this one isn't just toeing that line, it's breakdancing on it. But in the end, this parody commercial has enough going for it to emerge from the shadows of Paganomation's classic "Little Guys" and deserve credit in its own right. Unlike Pagano's film, which unfolded like a 1980s run-on infomercial, this film features the lightning-fast cuts and in-your-face salesmanship of a more modern 30-second spot. The animation, including one instance of the massive facial animation that so wowed Pagano's viewers, is solid but doesn't quite match the mastery its predecessor. Most viewers will like what they see in this well-made ad, but this film doesn't quite have enough punch to supplant its inspiration at the top of the "commercials for eponymous toys" pyramid.
