Staff Review

david reino :
I am a fan of the Monkey Island games, and I have no doubts that being one increased my enjoyment of this film tremendously. Ferder has succeeded in recreating the atmosphere and feel of the games, by use of Monkey Island music and also quite accurate portrayals of the game characters. The boat-load of jokes and gags made are not only clever but have wonderful timing and fit nicely in the scenarios where they are used. The material here, however, can work well as a stand-alone film besides. You will still enjoy the jokes that are not references to previous games, as well as the fast-paced action as it plays out across jungles, beaches, and the open sea. Don't pass this one up, whether ye be a landlubber seeking some pirate humor or a seasoned Monkey Island fan ready to watch a well-made prequel to the second game.
