Re: Official LEGO Movie

Took my girlfriend to see it, she really loved it. Can't say I liked it as much as the first time around but it's still a great film. Cinema was packed as well, even though it's been out 2 weeks or so over here.

Re: Official LEGO Movie

READ THIS, NOW.  This is about the closing credits and the stop motion and for those who thought as much, it was indeed stop-motion.

They also mentioned Brickfilms.com...but hey, where's Bricksinmotion in there?  *sigh*

Throughout the meeting, Phil and Chris discussed how the global Lego culture and enormous fan base had been a source of inspiration for the film. We talked about sites like brickfilms.com — a site full of fan-made stop-motion Lego films — and we discussed how that “handmade” charm could really play a big part of the end title aesthetic.

Apparently they used LDD for a lot of the actual designing of the sets.  Really though, just read the entire article.  It's really cool!

Re: Official LEGO Movie

It's a bit sad to think that despite our being around for five years, we still get overshadowed by the shell of Brickfilms.com... presumably because it has the superior name. If only we were "the world's largest online community dedicated to brickfilms".

Good find on the article, Jonn.

Re: Official LEGO Movie

Does anyone even still use Brickfilms.com? I haven't used it in so long that I can't remember my login.

Re: Official LEGO Movie

I've never even joined brickfilm.com.  I am unaware or what brickfilming was like in those days.
I started brickfilming in 2007, but i didn't connect with the rest of the brickfilming community until 2011.
I was under the impression that no one used it today.

Basically, this is the case. There are a couple of people who are still there, usually people new to the craft who find it because it seems like the obvious first place to go. (When I first found BiM in early 2011 I thought it was a cheap ripoff of brickfilms.com. Oh, ignorance)

I'm honestly positive that they really did go onto BiM, since if they went only on brickfilms.com, even back in 2010, it would have been a pretty deserted place. They probably just mentioned it because it's the easiest to name and is synonymous with the community.

Re: Official LEGO Movie

I found brickfilms.com before bricksinmotion.com but I never joined brickfilms.com because when I discovered it it was a blank page with everything saying "coming soon" and a featured film about a chest.
I discovered bricksinmotion from trying to find out what the "BiM TOY" and "THAC" meant on pritchard studio's films.

Re: Official LEGO Movie

I'm pretty excited to see this movie tonight.

Also, hello folks!

Re: Official LEGO Movie

I just got a big poster from my great uncle. mini/bigsmile

It was originally a bit of a mystery because my great uncle didn't put his name on anything and the only thing with it was a note that said "ENJOY"

Re: Official LEGO Movie

A neat (highly technical) look at the animation for the film.

Re: Official LEGO Movie

Through some investigation branched off of the article Smeagol posted, I've found that the animation supervisor, Chris McKay, has done a lot of work on Robot Chicken, he's credited as director on over 40 episodes, as well as some other jobs. So there was in fact some experience with stop motion within the animation team.

Re: Official LEGO Movie

That's really good news. The prospect of a sequel is a lot more encouraging now.

Re: Official LEGO Movie

So it's in capable hands, that's nice to hear; although I'm more worried about the story itself than the technical execution of the animation.
