The Simpsons lost all of its flare after the movie. Spongebob episodes are too repetitive. I don't understand why shows like these ares till playing. High viewership. Some people just have no taste. News flash: just because a tv show has a laughtrack doesn't make it funny. In fact, if it has a laugh track, it probably sucks. Canceled shows that were great include, spectacular spiderman, almost human, johnny bravo, powderpuff girls(getting a reboot), firefly, etc. Shows like community are praised and have a dedicated fan base. Despite this, they can canceled due to low views. The 4th season of community probably caused the loss of fans.

Hey! Holding Our Own has a laugh track! I painstakingly assembled and compiled all of the laughs myself, in fact. As of now, the repertoire contains 300+ laughs, sorted by type.
I actually think Simpsons hasn't had a high viewership in many years. They just've just run it into the ground and are still running. They needed to kill off a character just to get people to tune in. I knew who it was beforehand and didn't tune in.

By the way, the ads made it sound like it was going to be a regular character. But it was Krusty the Klown's father, who really had little significance to the show since season 2!
I love Powerpuff Girls and Johnny Bravo. I own the box set of PPG, which includes every episode, including the banned episode, "See Me, Feel Me, Gnomey". It was banned because it was an anti-communism allegory, and at the time it was produced, Ted Turner (married to Jane Fonda) had a lot more influence on the channel than he does today. (He's also responsible for a lot of the Looney Tunes and MGM censorship.) It's a must-watch episode. I think it's the only one where the whole 1/2 hour is dedicated to one story. It's also a musical, and every line of dialogue is sung. Really the epic of the series, and at the time, intended to be the final episode. Go find it now!
Other good animated shows of the past:
Samurai Jack
Dexter's Laboratory
King of the Hill
