Whilst changing the height of my table, I inadvertently jabbed a bloody huge nasty splinter betwixt my nail and finger.  It went in deep.  I screamed a scream of pain that probably sounded not entirely inhuman then pulled it out.  It hurt like crazy but the pain subsided relatively quickly, and I'm glad of that.

Two years in a row now I've drawn blood whist making a BRAWL film whist I was actually in the process of making it.

So BRAWL does some weird stuff to my head and I get some strange dreams.  Like last night I was dreaming that I was building a LEGO coffin for a lovely woman who apparently was my wife or something and I was very sad.  But I wanted to build a really nice coffin for her.
Does anyone else get strange dreams during BRAWL?

Re: BRAWL 2014 Update Thread!

No stranger than usual. Last night, it was nine foot skeleton cyclopes in a mall in Denmark (no LEGO connection, though, just somewhere I passed through a couple of years ago). The night before BRAWL started, I dreamt about Lantern rings in a bowl of popcorn.

No stranger than usual.

Re: BRAWL 2014 Update Thread!

I had a dream where i was playing GTA V (which i'm getting hopefully Friday, that's probably why i dreamt of it) and i crashed my car into a cliff. The cliff didn't have any rocks, it was just a plain grass... thing. I climbed up and saw a bunch of guys skating on a road. One of them tried to grind along a rail but fell onto the road and got driven over.

Besides, i'm getting sadder and sadder about the fact i'm not participating. I just couldn't do with the crappy storyline i had and i didn't feel like continuing so i didn't. I should start progress on my other brickfilm project, hmm.

No not at all. I just collapsed last night and dreamed something I don't remember. mini/tongue

Note to everyone on this forum, not just in this competition. Never EVER try animating on a smooth tiled surface unless you have 1000x A LOT of patience. Seriously, it's the hardest thing I have EVER done (and for BRAWL nonetheless). I now know why even a lot of pros don't do it.

Yeah. I wonder how hard it was for the people who made this. (They had a few of those smooth tiles shots)

Like I said patience.

As an update, I now have 4 shots complete, and a lot more left to go still. I only have another whole day to animate, so this is not looking good for me currently. On the other hand, warm up for THAC.

Smooth as Plastic uses flat tiles, but one scene of it is overlay, so he's not actually on the flat tiles. Another scene he uses green clay. It's really hard. I did it once, and I regretted it while I was animating. mini/tongue

https://m.flickr.com/#/photos/106720030 … 538957060/ filmed this shot yesterday. Since I don't have a tripod I just hung the set up. Worked pretty good. I'm hoping to finish all my filming today.

Re: BRAWL 2014 Update Thread!

Well, got a shot done last night, but now my video editor is really acting up and when the time does come to officially edit everything together, I'm screwed. Hopefully I'll get this problem fixed soon. mini/blankexpression

Idea: do close ups and use studs for those shots.

Works in theory, but not for all shots.

I fixed the warmth issue. The red floor room is supposed to be that warm living room that all your grandparents have in their houses, and then you have the foyer in the background with lots of light coming in through the large glass facade.

Looks nice, Kieren!

Has anyone had to put  red and orange pieces together in a weird place but had no choice?

Re: BRAWL 2014 Update Thread!

There's always a choice, though not always pleasant.  I've just tried to make the film based around the mod and focused on getting the visual appeal of the film to revolve around it and I designed a story based more around the mod than I did the theme.
That's probably not entirely a perfect idea, but I have high standards for colour in my films.

There was a shot I did of a briefly mentioned item called the Tears of Silver in the ruins of Pilver.
For certain reasons I really did not want to have the mod in there, and I still wasn't sure about the weird weapons working as Ks at that point so I stuck an ugly mod in the bottom corner.

However, my camera shoots in 3:2, yes I crop everything to 16:9, thus I can easily put something in those areas I'll cut later but still provide proof of the original.
