Re: The Squire and the Scroll

*Emergency Update*

For those of you who live in California, you probably heard about the earthquake that hit the San Francisco Bay Area this last Sunday.  It was a 6.1 on the Richter scale, and we got hit by the full force of it.  Not only were our current sets smashed (though luckily the castle and village are safe in storage), but our studio was completely trashed as well as our house.  Here are some pictures of what our studio looked like the next morning (note that these were taken after we had already done a bit of preliminary clean up!):

To make matters worse, our composer lives quite close to us, so he was hit hard too.  As he is both a father and has to work full time, he now has very little time to finish up the music for "The Squire and the Scroll," as he is currently using his spare time to fix the damages his own house sustained.

So, unfortunately, "The Squire and the Scroll" will not be coming out in August as we originally planned.  However, we do hope to get the first part up by mid September, though it will entirely depend on how long it takes our composer to get the music finished (as we are almost finished on our end).  We feel very blessed that our computer did not get damaged during the quake, and also that no one in our family was injured.  We will continue to keep you guys posted, and hopefully our next post will have better news than this one.

Re: The Squire and the Scroll

Oh that's terrible, I'm so glad you'll all okay. I can't even imagine how scary it must to experience an earthquake. Good luck fixing your home and I'm glad the production isn't too drastically affected.

Re: The Squire and the Scroll

I've got some distant cousins living in the Sacramento metro area. So, I feel very sorry about this situation.

Have you seen a big-chinned boy?

You're in our prayers.  We all know you'll overcome this!

I'm so glad no one in your family was injured.  That is more important than The Squire and the Scroll.

Re: The Squire and the Scroll

How are you guys doing after the earthquake? Hope all is well. mini/sad

Re: The Squire and the Scroll

Wow, how did I not see this before now? I hadn't heard about this earthquake at all... Anyway, glad your family was safe, and I hope your home wasn't to messed up. Don't worry about your movie, you guys will get it finished when you get it finished. It doesn't bother me in the least that it will be later than expected.

*Update*

Thanks for all the support guys.  We really appreciate it. mini/smile  We are making steady progress towards completing the first part and getting it online.  Things like mouth animation and CG set expansions are taking slightly longer than anticipated, but we are learning a lot and the process is slowly becoming more streamlined.  We weren't going to tease any more images before releasing the first part, but since we have already kept you waiting for longer than we originally said, here is a quick behind the scenes look at a scene in the upcoming first part:

After:

Please note that this one is more blurry than the original due to the fact that we added motion blur in post.

Anyhow, thanks again for all your support, and we'll do our best to get the first part up as soon as we can!

Re: The Squire and the Scroll

I remember waiting for this so long ago before I left. Anyways, the pictures look great guys, keep up the good work.

Re: The Squire and the Scroll

I just found out about this brickfilm a few days ago. I have to say, I'm looking forward to this more than some theatrical films! Keep up the great work!

Re: The Squire and the Scroll

When are you guys going to release the first part?

Please don't explode!  We wouldn't want a murder on our hands after all... mini/wink

We actually would like nothing better than to release the first part, as it is nearly done.  However, our composer has been having a lot of technical (and life) difficulties getting in the way of his work, so we are still awaiting the final score from him.  In the meantime though we have been working hard on getting the second and third parts completed, so our time has not been totally wasted.  However, both school and work take up a large majority of our lives right now, so the amount of time we are actually able to put into the project has been very little lately.  Over spring break we can hopefully make a big chunk of progress and put an official update in this thread rather than this reply. mini/smile

Re: The Squire and the Scroll

Man I can't wait for this! And as far as releasing this, dude, I can wait! It is just awesome that you have stuck with this for so long, and through school and all. Very impressive!

I look forward to the release. mini/tongue

Re: The Squire and the Scroll

Sorry for the bump, but I was wondering what the state of this is? I know that life has a way of taking up one's time, but I'm also curious to see if this is going to be finalized at some point. I hope so. mini/yes

The first part will be about 11 minutes long, with the following parts being between 9 and 12 minutes as well.

Yes, life DOES have a way of taking up LOTS of one's time.  However, we are still working on this project.  Currently, the first part pretty much only requires the music and a few final special effects and then it will be good.  The second part is pretty much the same story, but the third part still requires a bit of work.  Hopefully our composer (who is even more busy than I am) will have the music for Part 1 finished soon so we can release that to you, but until then we are continuing to work on the post-production on Part 3.
