Re: The Animation Challenge

So, in apology for not being a decent host last time, here's an entry.

Went from no set to it being uploaded and ready to go in an hour and a half. mini/sunnies
Surely some of the rest of ya'll can spare at least that much time to make something...  Please?

Three entries so far, this is great. Hope they keep coming!

Rio, I like how you showed the person replacing the wood, as well as how the wood popped up, paused for a second, then fell. The guy's jump could have been sped up more, but otherwise it's a very solid entry.

Mosh, Like Rio, the jump was a bit too slow, and I feel it didn't quite convey the impact it needed to.
But I like how he spun around, it gave a good sense of following through with the hit.

Re: The Animation Challenge

Thanks for all the entries guys.  Let's see some more!

Re: The Animation Challenge

It's set to private, LMD.

Re: The Animation Challenge

Sorry about that. I thought it was unlisted. I've fixed it now.

Re: The Animation Challenge

Wow that was great LMD! I really love how you made the board burst into pieces.

I'll try to enter once I get my animation table set of for a little short I'm doing.

Re: The Animation Challenge

Thank you. I'm glad my several years of animating is paying off mini/smile

Re: The Animation Challenge

LMD, I really like the animation on the board. Having the board splinter instead of simply snap in half definitely makes this one stand out. I would suggest trying to give a lot more force to the individual hits. Here's a clip you can look at for reference.

To show more force, at this point in the shot, I'd suggest having the hand go up in anticipation for a few frames, hold the hand in the air for at least one frame, but not more than two, and in another few frames have his hand come down, completing the breaking motion. Similar principle with the kick; have it go back a few frames before actually kicking.

Hope that helps!

Re: The Animation Challenge

Thanks LMD for the entry!  I'll make comments on all of the entries at the end.

Re: The Animation Challenge

Thanks Littlebrick. I do realise that the animation of him using his fist could have definitely be done better. I usually animate larger motions for fast movements. However, as you stated, I didn't do it for this one.

Similar principle with the kick; have it go back a few frames before actually kicking.

I wasn't actually animating a kick here. I was recreating a man breaking a board by lifting his thigh. I cannot seem to find any reference footage to show you this, but I hope you understand. Obviously the leg of a minifigure is limited in movements, so the only way to convey the lifting of the thigh was in a kick.

Thanks for the comment and your tips though, I'll be sure to keep this in mind.

Re: The Animation Challenge

Watch out! I'm going to post an entry soon...
I did 60 frames in about 7 minutes, but it's very rushed. Set bumps, a choppy split and unmasked.
I only did it so I can put it out with my other tests.
Hopefully YouTube uploads the video faster this time.

Excited for the results. What time will they be out?

Re: The Animation Challenge

It will be later in the day as I am typing this from my phone and want to use a computer to make links easier.  I'm in Pacific time, so it may be later this evening depending on where you are.
