Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Some of the films I've seen in theatre in this month:

Sicario Denis Villeneuve, 2015
By no means an original film on paper, but it's the execution of the story that makes for one of the best thrillers of recent years. Villeneuve truly knows how to direct scenes that makes your heart beat faster than it should be able to, and Robert Deakins' cinematography is outstanding. Benicio del Toro's understated performance was as eerie as they get, and the bass-heavy soundtrack brought that extra bit of oomph to the film. As long as Villeneuve and Deakins are at the helm of the Blade Runner sequel I'm actually looking forward to it.
8/10

Sátántangó Béla Tarr, 1994
Often (and incorrectly) cited as the longest film ever made, Sátántangó clocks in at just over seven hours. It's that rare film that leaves you feeling completely empty inside; the feeling - or rather lack thereof - that I adore the most when a film manages to achieve. The cinematography is gorgeous with most shots lingering on for five-plus minutes, slowly tracking along desolate fields and run-down buildings, populated with run-down characters. A meditation on the pointlessness of human life and the inevitability of the its apocalypse.
10/10

Goodbye to Language (Adieu au langage) Jean-Luc Godard, 2014
I'd be lying if I said that this film's artistic merit is greater than that of Tommy Wiseau's The Room. It's filled with that quasi-philosophical pretentiousness that I detest and I - for one - am thankful that this is Godard's final film. Absolutely horrible.

Inside out

Inside out is a very clever movie with lots of funny relatable problems. I would watch this movie again in day.

Moved an have no room to animate, but I do have a Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/84070766@N07/ My friends and I have been composing a Comic Series: http://cosmosquestcomic.com

90 Minutes in Heaven

An inspiring movie, but it puts you through the wringer emotionally first!  Whew!  I was emotionally drained before the credits rolled.  And Hayden Christensen Is much much better at whining than he was in the Star Wars prequels.  Maybe the director made the difference!  100% of the proceeds from this movie go to charity.  Recommended movie, but not a light and fluffy one.

Star Wars: Episode I

We decided to rewatch the whole saga again, because of this "Episode 7" coming out.

Truth is, I actually enjoy Episode 1. Yeah, it's not like the old ones, it has Jar Jar Binks and so on, but it's actually really well done: some of the special effects blend incredibly well with the real world, it looks better than stuff that came out a decade later (certainly better than "The Avengers" or "The Amazing Spider-Man"). Also, besides a few cheap jokes, midichlorians and the analogy with christ, it is elegant and sophisticated. The best thing that comes out of this first chapter is Naboo: I could believe every inch of it, looking at italian renaissance they couldn't go wrong.
Qui-gon and Darth Maul are probably the two most interesting characters of the prequels (too bad they only appear in one movie): Qui-gon because he's efficently portraied by Liam Neeson, and Darth Maul because he's intelligently designed and presented.
The pod race is amazing to listen at, I loved the sound design of that sequence.
The craft behind this movie makes it stand above other production because it still manages to create fully fleshed out worlds instead of just "nice looking concept arts", with no soul or brain (in this case, admittedly more soul than brain).
I also don't go into a star wars movie expecting "Shakespeare", in terms of writing. As a myth, it works pretty well.

So... I'm scared of episode 7. I don't care if you think George Lucas ruined the saga, I still enjoyed that he made it his way, with a coherent and personal style. At least episode 1. Tonight we'll watch episode 2, which may be a different story (it has always been my least favourite movie).

Star wars: Episode I

I also am rewatching it all before the 18th. Here's what I think of The phantom menace: mini/twitch .The only good part was the podrace.

I do not brickfilm anymore, but you can see my live action stuff here.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Really wish I had the time to watch the whole Star Wars saga before TFA. Don't think I'd have the stamina to go through the saga marathon some theaters are having. mini/lol

The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

No doubt one of my favorites from this year. My first Guy Richie film, and was extremely well done, especially the comedy, and

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Episode I-III

I liked it. Not as much as the originals though. I have to say, Lucas deserves praise for the amount of back story and depth he put into this as both a writer and director. Though, he kind of over did it with the visual effects and some scenes had way too much talking. Anakin's turn to the dark side wasn't very convincing in my mind, and I felt in his duel with his master while he was explaining, he continued to contradicted himself. I know Lucas wanted to play with CGI with these films, as he would have done with the originals if the technology was available back then, but I think that practical effects look a lot better. But, I admire him for trying. Excited to see The force awakens on Saturday.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Go. Just. Go and see it.

Star Wars Episode VII

My expectations were low, so you can only imagine how blown away I was by it, if you saw it already.  just go and see it, like Slurping said.

You don't need to read a review to go see it. It's Star wars, you were probably gonna see it anyway.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Behind the Candelabra

Michael Douglas delivera an impressivily real performance as the out of this world campy Liberace, somehow constantly keeping the characterisation from being just too camp, dancing right on the edge.

Matt Damon delivers an equally good, although more understated performance as his lover-com-vetenarian-com-chauffeur-com-secretary-com-so much more as the film progresses. (I know com should be spelled with a U, but it's not allowed)

A surprise scene stealer comes in the form of Rob Lowe with a facelift turned up to 11-tistupid, playing a Platic Surgeon rivalling Jim Broadbent in Brazil on a comedic level. Apropos plastic surgeons, major props to the makeup artists on the film, for their work especially later in the film.

If you're interested, I would reccomend watching it without seeing a trailer first, as they spoil most of the plot points, as well as some of the funniest moments.

The films black humour and camp mountains worth of glitter and rhinestone can't help but leave you with a smile on your face after seeing in, even through the sadder parts of the film.

All in all it's a very entertaining film, and a good watch on a rainy day, but not much more than that. 8/10

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
Well. You know.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens
I'm not much of a fan of it, but most everyone else seems to love it.

Toy Story 3
A great movie, very emotion. Now I just need to remember what I did with the video game...

The Lego Movie
An entertaining movie, I'm more attentive to the camera effects they used than anything else at the moment.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Why did you watch Transformers: Revenge of the fallen?  I wish I could have stopped you.  If you want to watch a transformers movie, watch the one and only TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE (1986).  It's called THE movie for a reason.

By the way, I'd love to see you join the SW Spoilerific thread with your thoughts on it.  I'd really like to know the POV casual fans and non-fans have.
