Topic: What is a good, cheap, small camera?

I am looking for a camera which can get close and personal with the figures but also keep good focus, any ideas? mini/smile

Webcam, right? Get the Logitech c920. Put a magnifying glass in front if you need it to zoom more. Or, get some Vivitar Diopter Macro Filters (which are used on DSLR lenses) and put them in front of the lens. Obviously, it'll degrade the quality a tiny bit and distort the edges, but it's the only way to get super super up close beyond that which the c920 can do.

OR, you could buy a USB digital microscope. I've got one like this:
Veho
CONS:
Fiddly to install
Only outputs JPG files
max resolution 640 x 480
PROS:
Fill the screen with a microfig smile!
You can always composite images into a program Like After Effects if you want higher resolution

Useful for those situations where you can't get close enough with other stuff

You could always try looking around for other products if you want higher resolution (they tend to get pricey tho)

Just a suggestion. You DID mention getting up close and personal...

mini/yes Get the C920. mini/yes It's almost as high quality as a DSLR.
