Re: The Animation Challenge

Sorry if I was unclear: I was not thinking of a low FPS challenge, I meant more making smooth animation at a normal FPS, but with smaller movements so the motion is slowed down.  Sort of like what this thread was talking about.

Hi @1999mrlegoman have you decided on the new challenge theme?

Re: The Animation Challenge

Sorry I'm late.  The challenge is slow motion and the deadline is next Monday, May 1.  I should announce the results the next day.

the animation challenge is pretty lose, so as long as a winner hasn't been announced you can probably still get an entry in, particularly if the judge is aware you are working on one.
Since there are multiple time zones the results usually aren't posted until the next day, depending on the judge, so I'd say go for it.

also, does it matter if I don't mask out my supports so I can get done a little faster?

Re: The Animation Challenge

No- I don't care if you don't have time to mask.  The point here is to see how well you can do slow motion, not how well you can mask! mini/wink

Re: The Animation Challenge

I always try and enter these, and something goes wrong. Now I personally have no more time to work on this. Good luck all! Ill try again next time.

Re: The Animation Challenge

The winner is... Weasel Animations!
Your animation was solid and the pace of the slow motion parts was good.  I was impressed with how the slowness did not make the animation choppy.

Simple Brick Studios, yours was good too.  However, I felt like the motion was a bit fast.  Also, right before the end there was a frame where the puncher moved the opposite direction of the motion in the other frames.  This made it look kind of jerky and spoiled the effect somewhat.  That being said, that's a nitpick and I was impressed with both entries this week.

Re: The Animation Challenge

Thank you 1999mrlegoman!

This weeks challenge is Propped Flying! I am looking for a smooth flying look with props. Make sure they are as hidden as possible. Any entry's using masking or rig removal will be disqualified. I am looking forward to your films. Good luck!

Re: The Animation Challenge

Just to be clear, the challenge is to animate something flying using a rig which is hidden with out using photo editing?

Re: The Animation Challenge

That's right! Let me know if you have any more questions.

Re: The Animation Challenge

While propped flying is a challenge, is it really about movement? It seems like the entries could vary too much and not even possibly be related to each other besides something being suspended in the air by a support that is hidden. Am I misunderstanding something?

Re: The Animation Challenge

No. It's about any LEGO being suspended by a prop. It could vary what you do, but that's the bones of the challenge. Let me know if you have any more questions. mini/smile
