Shaq, or Shaquille O’Neal, is a retired Basketball player. But that’s not what we’re here for.

SHAC is a brickfilming contest that lasts 72 hours… So 3 days. Or 1 weekend.

Similar to THAC and BRAWL, SHAC requires entrants to brainstorm, write, record, film, edit, and submit a brickfilm within a set time limit.

This inaugural contest will begin on Friday, March 2nd, 2018 at 12pm (midday) EST and will run for 72 hours. It will end on Monday, March 5th, 2018 at 12pm (midday) EST.

This allows for our UK & European friends to know the theme by the end of school/work, and for us here in the United States to be able to begin brainstorming before school/work or on break, and then begin once returning home.

To find out what that is in your time zone, click here!

Anyone & Everyone! You don’t have to be a registered BricksinMotion.com member to enter! Just make sure you stick to the rules, and you’ll be fine.

The rules are pretty simple:

  • Your work must be entirely made & submitted within the 72 hour period.

  • The mod elements must appear in your film. (more on that later)

  • Your entry must consist of at least 30 seconds of Lego or similar building-block toy animation.

  • No mature/explicit content is allowed.

  • And make sure to keep your entry unlisted before the deadline has passed!

Feel free to make brickfilms featuring copyrighted/trademarked properties, however, shy away from using copyrighted music.

To prevent cheating (and to add a bit of a fun challenge) the contest theme & mod elements will not be announced until the day of the contest.

To prove that your film was made within the time limit, it must contain the mod elements. For this contest, they are:

A Color Mod
This will be a combination of two random brick colors that will need to be connected or touching.

A Letter Mod
This will be one of the 26 letters of the modern English alphabet.

These mod elements must be present in every shot of your film. You do NOT need to use both. You could combine them, use just one, or use just the other! Do it any way you see fit. Just make sure that at least one is visible in every shot.

A Sound Mod
A randomly chosen sound clip will be provided upon announcement of the contest. This must appear in your film. NOT during the credits. And NOT after the ending credits. This sound can be reversed, or digitally altered in any way, so long as it is still clearly the sound clip.

To Reiterate:
Your film must contain either the Color Mod, Letter Mod, or both in every shot. AND, you must also include the Sound Mod at least one time.

Feel free to use the sound mod more than once, if you wish! mini/eek  ...But refrain from spamming it, thank you.

The Judges will be Dylan Johnson (myself), The Login Productions, One Brick Shy, and a fourth mystery judge who will be revealed upon the start of the contest.

Entries will be judged based on originality, animation, set & costume design, cinematography, sound, story, and interpretation of the theme.

All entries will be publicly ranked.

The top three places will each receive a sealed collectible minifigure!

Plus, another of the accepted entrants will be chosen at random to also receive a collectable minifigure! To keep things fair, this entrant will be randomly selected based on their final ranking number – thus the need to list all rankings publicly.

All entrants will get a digital certificate congratulating them upon entering. - These would go great on a BiM signature or in the credits of future projects! mini/smile

I think that wraps it all up! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them down below.

Please upload your film as an unlisted YouTube video, password-protected Vimeo video, or other non-public link.

Send an email to: [email protected] before 12pm (midday) EST, Monday March 5th, 2018 with a working link to your film (& password, if necessary), with this subject: SHAQ, [Your BiM username]’s “[Title of film]”

For Example: SHAQ, Dyland’s “De Mortem Part Deux”

And remember to have fun! mini/smile

So we should expect the contest results around September? mini/lol

Re: SHAC Announcement Thread!

Could be fun, I'm adding it to my calendar.

Re: SHAC Announcement Thread!

Cool I'll see if I can enter but I my have a hard time since I still haven't fully recovered from the madness from Thac but I'll see what I can do

YouTube

I'm a Brickfilmer that loves smooth animation and attention to detail.

Re: SHAC Announcement Thread!

Seventy-two hours of scripting, animating and editing a film of construction toys that I should have way outgrown now, staying up way, way, ways past my bedtime, just to get a collectible minifigure!?...I like it. mini/yes

I'm sure we'll get the final voting in before the hallowed anniversary of Citizen of the Year. mini/tongue

Re: SHAC Announcement Thread!

Tempted ... very tempted ...

Re: SHAC Announcement Thread!

I like the idea of a sound mod, that's pretty interesting. As long as it's not the Wilhelm... mini/eek

Re: SHAC Announcement Thread!

I'll be honest, thistof, I was initially tempted to go with the Wilhelm, since I figured everyone would have been expecting it at some point. But I ultimately decided against it.

Needless to say, the Wilhelm scream will never be the chosen sound mod while I host this contest...

Although, feel free to put it into your film otherwise!

Re: SHAC Announcement Thread!

Lol, I just figured people might jump the gun assuming that was going to be it.
Although the Ninjago movie actually lampooned that trope quite well.

Re: SHAC Announcement Thread!

I still need to see that sometime...

Agreed. A sound mod is a unique element that I haven't "seen" required for a contest before mini/lol

But seriously, this sounds really cool. I'm sure I won't have time to partake (just like every other contest I watch pass me by...), but I can't wait to see what comes out of this.

Re: SHAC Announcement Thread!

I too love the idea of a sound mod. The creativity of brickfilmers never ceases to amaze me, and there's no telling the number of weird and wonderful ways it will be used.

It kinda reminds me of the similarly creative thing done years ago in the Ten Lines Contest, but that was more of a creative restriction rather than a mod element.

Re: SHAC Announcement Thread!

Seems like a great idea, would be interested in having a go! mini/smile
