Re: The Animation Challenge

Ok, here we go!

Theme: Mounting a Horse.
We've all seen it, the action hero who leaps up on his horse from behind,  the elf who magically flips on from the front, and the normal and sane person who actually gets on a horse correctly. Whether you choose a realistic take, or some cartoon craziness, let's try our hand at somebody getting on a horse.

Deadline: Monday, October 8th

Have fun!

Re: The Animation Challenge

Awesome! I'm excited to try this! mini/smile

Re: The Animation Challenge

Totally doing this! Great theme.

Re: The Animation Challenge

when you mean to mount a horse can it be a scene where someone is on top of  a car chase from villans and jumps on to his horse:

The challenge is just that part, but you can also film whatever you'd like before and after it as long as you include the actual "getting on the horse" action somewhere. Jumping over from a car sounds pretty cool!

Re: The Animation Challenge

Hey this may be a stupid question but is it fine that the horse is brick built?

Re: The Animation Challenge

Not a problem!

Yes! It doesn't even have to be a horse. This is about animation, not about what a horse looks like. mini/wink

I didn’t do any animation for quite some time, so this is maybe sort of bad. Gonna try to animate a lot more.

Re: The Animation Challenge

So glad to see all the entries! Great work guys!
This is going to be a difficult challenge to judge. mini/wink

Don't forget, you have less than forty-eight hours left if you're still wanting to enter.

Re: The Animation Challenge

Hehehehe.  I'm gonna disappear for a while to make my entry, then swoop back in to claim my victory. mini/sunnies mini/tongue

EDIT: Oh, for some reason I though I had until the 10th.  I dislike intense time pressure, so I will back down. mini/tongue

Re: The Animation Challenge

Well, there's a little over two hours left in the day, and no sign of more entries, so here we go!

First off: Wow!

The creativity and talent of brickfilmers continues to amaze me. Great job to one and all! I'm so glad that so many of you participated and thanks for liking the theme!

Anywho, here we go:

AwesomePants -  Way to get on the ball with the first entry! The masking is a bit rough, though I love the fun with the horse flinging him up.

Tiny World - I like the little realistic touches like his arm swinging before the horse's forward lurch and the leaning forward before springing back motion of the "landing." Also, great job making due without a horse piece.

Ozone - Choosing to balance the line between "normal" and "zany" seemed to work in your favor. The timing of the jump/mount works great, but that slight pause between the turn and the jump strikes me as a bit jerky in the first one. In that case, it's not an animation flaw, only a personal and stylistic preference. I like both arms swinging in the second one, but it doesn't quite have the life and vigor of a couple of the others.

NTN - Taking a more sedentary and normal route than the others instantly set yours apart. It's smooth and simple, but the sudden stopping of his arms at the end spoils the otherwise impressive animation.

And now for the top three:

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p84/UberSocks/51.gif 3rd Place: Raytistic - Yours carried a lot of "character" to it. I love the motion blur, but more movement with his arms as he settles into the saddle would have really sold the action.

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p84/UberSocks/50.gif 2nd Place: LAF - I love the clouds in the sky, as well as the bright and cheerful atmosphere. The animation is great, and I love the slower paced beginning. Yours slightly edged out NTN's as the best "nomral" one, but not by much. Both are excellent examples of "normal" mounting. BUT, I've been told riders are not really supposed to mount a horse from the right. mini/wink

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p84/UberSocks/49.gif 1st Place: Lotsatoast - Haha! Some people have the ability to endow their animations with an extra special dash of character and energy...It seems you are one of those blessed people! Great job! I love the bouncing on the horse's back at the end!

Again, thank you for entering, and great job to everyone!

Lotsatoast, you're up!

Re: The Animation Challenge

Congratta-tatta-ations Lotsatoast!  And to you, Raytistique.  And thank you, Pritchard Studios, for picking such a great theme.  I really enjoyed participating in this challenge! mini/bigsmile Also, thanks, I didn't know one wasn't supposed to mount from the right.  One learns something new every day.  I'll keep that in mind for future brickfilms. mini/smile
