It would be interesting to see what effect a shorter window would have on the number of entrants and quality of submission. On the one hand I see the rationale of allowing more time to complete the project in hopes of eliciting well thought out/well executed entries. But on the other hand I think what often happens is when the deadline is originally announced, people think they have all the time in the world - and wind up delaying their project - and before you know it - the deadline arrives. It's human nature I think - nothing gets done until the pressure is on.
It would be interesting to go back to the original TOY thread to see how many people (in the first couple of days after the contest was announced) said they would make an entry - but ultimately never did. A shorter window may be the way to go.
