That's because he made it with stuff he already had. To hear that you've bought 1,200 AUD (that's 1,280.06 USD for those in the USA) worth of stuff is pretty incredible. You must be very dedicated to your brickfilm.

I've only spent a total of $110 USD on brickfilms
For my Brawl entry I spent more or less 13 euros, to buy two green baselates.
I never spend money on Brickfilms. I only reuse previous material. My T2i was bought for the purpose of photography, and is being used for some brickfilms as an additional use.
I recently went to the lego store and got about $10 worth of light blue bricks for a set I made but other than that, all my equipment is things I already have.
