Topic: Best HD render formats?

Just wondering what some of formats people use to render their films?

For me, it has to be Mpeg4 or AVCHD (I now use .Avi) mini/tongue

1920 x 1080 for 16:9 and 1920 x 800 for 2.40:1 cinemascope

Re: Best HD render formats?

This is a good thread. Props to you, Saminatorger.

For me, I use Mpeg 4 for compressing films into HD to preserve quality (This has not been used for our previous films, but it will be used for our future films).

Yeah, Mpeg 4's usually pretty good, though it depends how good your editing software is.
WMV's not bad if you want a really small file

Yeah it is, but I've worked with WMV's for so long I just want some better quality for our films mini/tongue .

Is this thread dead?
If not, Premiere Pro's 'YouTube Widescreen HD' looks great.
It uses the H.264 compression codec, and takes a little longer to render, but the results are nice.

Re: Best HD render formats?

I use MP4 1920x1080 because for me it gave the best results. If anyone knows better Vegas render formats do tell.

Re: Best HD render formats?

I use MPEG4 1280x720, NTSC format.
My animation clips are not HD (they're 640x480), but the titles and everything else are.

1920x1080 - H.264 - MP4 (After Effects)
1920x1080 - Quicktime standard - MOV (Final Cut Pro X)

Oh and my animationframes are 1920x1200 (in Dragon Stopmotion)

Re: Best HD render formats?

I edit my sequences in Apple ProRes 422 (LT) for HD content, and then compress to QuickTime H.264.

Re: Best HD render formats?

1280x720 resolution (animation footage) export footage also 1280x720
recently started exporting .FLV files instead of .AVI or .MPEG4.

1280x720 - H.264 - Quicktime movie

^ I use this to render my videos in HD for youtube.

Re: Best HD render formats?

Guys if the footage is 1280x720 and I export the final edited sequence in 1920x1080 resolution (for youtube) is the video actually going to be higher quality than the 1280x720 would be? I know the titles and stuff would be in higher quality but I'm talking about the stop-motion footage itself.

No, the RAW format you shoot in determines the maximum resolution your footage will be.  However, its always best to render in the highest resolution you can to prevent the loss of quality (particularly with YouTube).
