Topic: What do people mean when they say "what happened to the forums"

What do people mean when they say "what happened to the forums"? Like when people say there are not as many people on the fourm and that their brickfilms arn't reviewed or their question was not answered. I have been on the fourms fo almost a year and there have always people to help me out and review my brickfilms, so I don't know what they mean when people say things like that. I hope I made my question clear. mini/smile

I think it's often a case of one person feeling personally neglected and assuming everyone else feels the same way. Bricks in Motion has always been and always will be a community-first platform for Brickfilmers to share their work, their knowledge, and their help. That being said it's true, however, that there's a lot of films in the releases forum that don't have comments on them. But to be fair, there's a LOT of films that get released and a lot of people don't have the time to go through them, watch them then formulate good feedback.

Re: What do people mean when they say "what happened to the forums"

Really honestly, this has been a common question throughout the forums, and throughout the years, that, every time I see a new thread opened up just so people can talk about this, it seems less and less of an issue to me. Nothing has happened to the forums. People come and go.

I dunno about you. But, quite the opposite has happened for me, actually. I've received tons of useful critique throughout my years on these forums, and made lots of new friends, despite the fact that I'll probably never meet any of them in person.

Every time a member posts a film that receives little to no comments in the first week of submission, they automatically assume that "something is wrong with the forums, and no one is doing anything to help anyone anymore". That's a load. Take it from me, a guy who's posted tons of films on the forums, with many of them not garnering any critiques. But, you don't see me accusing other users of being unhelpful, do you?

Since the other thread was closed, I went ahead and posted it here. I'm not mad at you or anything, Canaan. I'm just adding something to the table.

Have you seen a big-chinned boy?

Thanks for the input. I was just wondering why that's something that people keep saying. mini/smile

Re: What do people mean when they say "what happened to the forums"

in my case I know it's not that becuase I haven't posted a film or a question on this site in a few years because I don't have time to make brickfilms. I've asked this question on a few occasions too, but mainly it is "why isn't this place as lively and happy as it used to be?" I mean I joined in 2010 and it seemed much happier back then but even back then I almost never got feedback on my work. But that's ok because the reason I stayed on this website was just to keep me company whereas had I just stayed for the film stuff I would have left long ago.

Many of the members who were active back then are now in college, in the process of graduating college, or have already graduated and are now beginning their careers. This means that their time is strapped from dawn till dusk, and they have to manage their time wisely; it is certainly wiser to spend more time on things that matter instead of a part time hobby (Unless one is taking up brickfilming as a profession). This is the case for me and my brother as well; we have released one film since April 2012, mostly due to my upcoming graduation and college process, which my brother will also be going through at the same time next year. Basically, long story short, the older more experienced members are growing up, and that leaves a large portion of the community with younger, less experienced members. This isn't a bad thing, but younger members tend to be a little more immature for obvious reasons, which can push a lot of buttons on older members.
