Re: The Social Media Page thread

Well folks, I have created an all new YouTube channel for Robots With Knives and I could really use some subscribers, from now own that is where my finished work will go, I have even uploaded all my old Reels About Nothing films so you can see them in glorious 480p for the first time. If you've enjoyed the films I've made or learned something from my posts a subscription would be greatly appreciated, (I haven't uploaded Manhole yet as I might change how the credits play on my new films and I might change the title as I think currently 'Manhole' turns a lot of folks off from watching it)

Was excited for this upcoming steampunk film of yours and even though I'm not in high school, when I saw the title I thought oh. Oh. So that's what he's decided to title it. Hmm.

I'm really bad at naming my own films with Manhole and True Love Waits being the.worst naming failures,  as much as I hate the term a new YouTube gives me a chance to rebrand. My plan is to join the Frederator network and give that a shot for a year.

Re: The Social Media Page thread

Are you trying to rebrand away from SlothPaladin, thus the channel change? Will you keep your old channel active, maybe for uploading tests and other things?

Re: The Social Media Page thread

Bump, but I wanted to ask if anybody has good success with their social media (particularly Facebook) efforts? I've been trying to build up the BricksInMotion page a bit, but it feels like such a redundancy to the website and Twitter, and hasn't gained traction. Maybe Facebook pages only make sense if you don't have a proper website (beyond a YouTube profile) for whatever the page is for, to begin with.

Re: The Social Media Page thread

Looking at other Facebook pages, it comes down to frequency of posting and type of content being shared.  Star Wars does character and trivia postings, my local library shares upcoming event and resources.  Two extreme examples for comparison.

When I was in charge of my previous workplace's social media, the general rule was minimum 1 post per week, max one post daily.  Popular postings were usually anecdotal, memes, and highlights of events, including what staff are working on and what participants were doing.

Facebook, I think, is a good platform to reach friends of brickfilmers. You already have 265 likes. Perhaps like with the Brickfilm and brickfilmer articles you've done on the site, continue with it on Facebook.  You can schedule up to 6 month ahead. I'm sure you can find 26 brickfilms worth showcasing.  You can also promote animators who deserve more exposure and fill the rest of your scheduled posting images (with the poster's permission, of course) from active threads like Show My Frame.

At the end of the day, it's about keeping it active.  If you build it, they will come.  You can spend an hour or so just scheduling postings for the next month or so.

Re: The Social Media Page thread

Lechnology summed it up exactly. I have noticed that BiM's Facebook has less activity than Twitter, and maybe that's the problem? I'm no expert. I also hate Facebook, but I see that a lot more people use it in their everyday lives more than they use Twitter.

Kinda off-topic, but maybe BiM having an official YouTube channel would help though, considering people learn a lot about video events from videos on Youtube. I heard a few times this THAC that some people didn't even know THAC was happening until afterwards when they saw the films come up in their YouTube subscriptions. Just a thought. mini/wink

Re: The Social Media Page thread

It does seem that Facebook is much harder to get followers than Twitter. I've got my own Facebook page for my YouTube channel, but since I made it in June, I have only got 22 likes and that is mostly made up of friends and family. With Twitter, however, this is not the case. I currently have nearly 200 followers since September and generally get around 1 or 2 new followers on an average day. With the way Twitter works, if one person follows you, their followers will receive emails of recommend people to follow, and quite quickly, you get a large number of people following you. With the way Facebook is, well it simply just doesn't work that way. The whole system with Facebook needs to be remodelled.

Re: The Social Media Page thread

I guess it depends on the content and the followers.  BiM's twitter has 1000 followers with average 5-6 likes, few retweets.  BiM's Facebook has 265 Likes, reaching at least 100 per post, but with fluctuating number of Likes.  Better to use both platforms to optimize coverage.
