Topic: What are you bad at?

I think it is constructive to identify what we need to improve - so we can improve.  mini/smile

I for one know that if I get one thing wrong, it will be the lighting.  It's either too bright or too dark or inconsistent between shots.

What do you suck at?

Re: What are you bad at?

Well, anyone who watches my animations knows that I'm bad at animating. Story and dialogue are my forte  - the visuals are just a means of telling the story.

Like Max, I consider writing my strong point.  For me it's the lighting.  I've improved over time, but I'm trying to find ways to overcome some of my camera's lack of manual features.

Re: What are you bad at?

I would say audio. Most of the time I do audio editing, sounds don't usually fit in, and there is also a presence of no sound at all during some stage in a brickfilm of mine.

Easing.

Lighting.

Camera movement.

Life.

Re: What are you bad at?

I'm terrible at making sets, absolutely terrible. Most of my brickfilm sets are just made of a few blank walls with maybe a window or door and a prop or two. I'm working to fix this by designing my sets in Lego Digital Designer before I go to make them so I'm hoping I'll get better that way, even if it will cost me some money.

I'm also pretty bad at getting a girlfriend.

Re: What are you bad at?

For me it would be audio (doing most of the voices myself the very my small amount of sounds I've recorded) and also the pacing of my films need improvement.

Re: What are you bad at?

I definitely suck at several things.

1. Building sets
2. Chroma keying
3. Adding realistic sound effects.

Sadly, I doubt I can ever fix any of these.

The guy who got banned more times than DiCaprio said "f***" in The Wolf Of Wall Street.

Re: What are you bad at?

I am half-decent at animating, but I need to improve on set building and scripting and story telling a lot.

Re: What are you bad at?

I'm also bad at getting films out in a timely manner.  But then again, my episodes are 20+ minutes each.  Maybe I should release a segment at a time?

Re: What are you bad at?

everything

Re: What are you bad at?

  • I am bad at making realistic film ideas (realistically film-able, I don't care about realism in general)

  • I have also had a tendency to rely on anti-climax in my films, to the point were it is a crutch

  • Audio has always been a week point, I hope it will be better in my current project

  • Writing dialog, I feel like I'm getting better at story structure but dialog is still weak

  • Adding camera movement to shots, I have a geared tripod head, I should have way more shots that move then I do

  • I am also bad at making films cheaply, sometimes bricklink is a curse, I have a TON of LEGO I shouldn't need to keep buying more all the time

  • Sorting my LEGO, I feel like I have about 30-40% of my collection sorted, I always get destracted

Re: What are you bad at?

-Storywriting isn't what I'm best at and I'd really, really like to improve on that
-I could really improve on my animation at times
-Coming up with good story ideas is another huge one that I suck at

Also definitely audio. I've recently discovered that all this time, I should have been using Premiere Pro instead of After Effects for this. Sooooooo much easier.

Coming up with ideas. Once I have one, I can write reasonably well, but I struggle to get the idea. Or at least the good ones.

Lighting. Although most of that is a budget issue. I have grand plans to greatly improve my lighting. Part of this includes using variable lighting instead of a standard desk lamp. Hopefully much more control over light flicker which I have determined isn't the fault of my full manual camera.

Camera movement. ANZAC was ambitious. I'm hoping to fix this tenfold when I build my automated motion control rig.

Re: What are you bad at?

Time: it always takes too much time to finish a project that I finally decide it's not worth it anymore.

Re: What are you bad at?

I have always been terrible at ending videos; my endings are usually thought up on the spot and incredibly sudden. The abruptness has made for a funny ending once or twice, but usually they don't feel satisfying.

I've also only ever built quite basic sets which is something I hope to improve on in future videos. Hopefully I don't become too addicted to Bricklink!

I sometimes get this too.

Re: What are you bad at?

Definitely smooth animating.  Many of my films have been plagued with choppy animation, which I have tried to refine, but still need to work on.
It's probably down to the fact I'm very impatient, which is NOT a good trait for an animator.
