Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary

I there a way to donate and get the perks outside of kickstarter?  I'm considering donating but I never use cards.

We already covered this on the first page:

Kickstarter does allow for the use of prepaid debit cards of the like you can pick up at a typical grocery store. Perhaps that would suit your needs?

Jargon's right, that might be the easiest way to go about it. It's true Kickstarter doesn't accept Paypal payments, unfortunately. (Amazon owns Kickstarter and is in direct competition with Paypal)

Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary

A prepaid card like what Jargon and Nathan mentioned is probably the best solution. Thank you for your interest! I do wish Kickstarter accepted a wider variety of payment methods.

After conferring with Doug, we've decided that the blu-ray option will be a blu-ray / DVD combo pack! As in, both discs sharing a two-disc blu-ray case.

Yes! This is great! Thanks Smeagol/Doug!

Thanks for doing this. Also thanks for being willing to consider to my suggestion in chat. mini/smile

Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary

That's so awesome that it comes with a DVD too. I'll be backing at least at that level for sure.

Every time I pop back on to BiM, something pants-wettingly exciting is happening. Sign me up, take my money, sacrifice my first-born, whatever you need, I can't wait to see the end result.

I don't make Brickfilms. I trade virtual hats.

Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary

I am pretty sure to donate now, and I can goto Wal*Mart or WaWa or somewhere and get a prepaid gift card, probably. Thanks.

Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary

Apparently I chose a good time to check back in here! I'll definitely be donating to this once it goes live, and will help spread the word.

Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary

If you plan to contribute in the first 48 hours, please send me a private message with your approximate minimum intended pledge as soon as possible. It'd be helpful is all. Thank you!

Reminder: if you pledge $25 or more in the first 48 hours you will receive a BiM keychain for free!

As we finalize details for the Kickstarter, getting a rough idea of how many pledges we'll be getting in the first 48 hours will help us make some decisions about the campaign. Of course, this is just to help us get an idea of what people plan to give, and you're welcome to change your pledge plans after you message me.

Great! My hope was that more people who don't have reliable access to a Blu-ray player would be interested in getting Blu-ray if it included a DVD. Many of the films we have lined up for the collection are in high definition, and it seemed like it would be a wasted opportunity not to provide those films in the highest available quality. I'm going to be remastering Unrenewable in HD with revised color grading, and I know some of the other films will be the best quality that has ever been made available as well.

Thank you for doing that! It's unfortunate Kickstarter doesn't make things easier, but running everything through Kickstarter is necessary given the scale of the campaign, we don't want to forget anybody or lose track of contributors during the delivery phase.

Unfortunately, Kickstarter does not accept human sacrifices.

Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary

Cool!

Just as an additional question: About how big is the Nathan Wells model planned to be? Since this tier will cost $25 more than the previous, can we expect it to be about the same about of pieces as a similarly priced LEGO model?

Also, PM sent!

Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary

The Builder level, which is $50 and includes your name in the final documentary’s credits, a HD digital copy of the final documentary, and the Bricks in Motion Collection DVD, also includes this model.

It has 49 pieces and stands at just under 6 inches tall when complete.

Remember, don't think of it as buying a LEGO model. By participating in the Kickstarter, you are donating to us, and the LEGO model (and other things you get for this level) are just our way of thanking you. If we spent all of the money on a LEGO model that had hundreds of pieces, we'd have no money left for the documentary!

When the kickstarter launches we'll also be revealing a second tier called The Master Builder that will feature another more complex LEGO model that I designed.

Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary

Wow, I feel stupid for not seeing that.

Don't worry, my question wasn't me saying I wouldn't buy it if it wasn't the LEGO Price-4-Piece ratio. I just wanted to know what I was getting. I really like this model, it'd be a real nice thing for my desk!

I feel like we need to come up with an exhaustive list of blogs like that and contact them all with a brief press release. I'm just not very up on blogging and not sure how to find the volume of blogs we would want for this purpose.

I think you can just blast the press releases out to PR sites. From what I can see, blogs about animation, claymation, stop motion etc do scan the PR sites for new things that are coming up. It is a bit of a hassle though because then the press releases should be written in the tone that is similar with the tone being used in the blogs or e-magazines you hope to get a feature in. I think they are mostly passive news consumers so they are always on the lookout for interesting content.

Some would also use it for SEO stuff but ever since Google killed keyword tool, it's harder to find the right words to use in press releases. A Google Plus post with a lot of +1s or circlers might work faster. Most Youtube accounts are automatically connected to a Google Plus account anyway.

Excited to announce The Duke aka Joseph Frank will be collaborating with me to compose the original score for the documentary. Joseph was a prolific brickfilm composer in years past, lending his work to films including Mirrored Perspective, Edison, Beast, and Picturesque.

I'm impressed Nathan. Good job.

The guy who got banned more times than DiCaprio said "f***" in The Wolf Of Wall Street.

Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary

Slick.

Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary

Looks wonderful, Nathan. I'm seriously considering the $150 tier.
