Topic: We REALLY should have taken more advantage of Vine while it was big.

Of course it's kind of dying off right now, but looking back brickfilming would have worked great and many more people would have probably started learning about it.

Here is an article about this from early last year.

Re: We REALLY should have taken more advantage of Vine while it was big.

brickfilm vines could be cool. I sorta feel like awareness that LEGO animation exists is no longer the problem, in a post-The LEGO Movie world. It's an inherently niche hobby.

True. There's always that multi-hundred-million(how else would you say that? definitely doesn't sound correct) dollar movie also made our hobby SLIGHTLY more popular(obvious sarcasm).

However, this could have happened in 2012-13.

Ugg, why is Vine even a thing, maybe I'm to old to understand, but vine seems to be everything I hate about YouTube but in a concentrated forum.

Vine Brickfilms?  So like 6 second videos shot at 1:1 aspect ratio?  It can be done without Vine.  The 1:1 aspect ratio would be weird, though.

I'm pretty glad I missed Vine while it was a thing. I still managed to hear about it in my two-year absence from the internet, and thought it was a terrible idea.

On a side note, I don't really mind brickfilms being a niche hobby.

While I like Vines (a lot - some people have been really creative, telling a story in just 6 seconds) I tried a couple of 'Brickvines' that failed miserably. They take a while to set up, and there are all these lag times and stuff that make it hard to properly 'edit'.

So for me, it's not the concept I dislike, I just think it's too difficult for too little reward. You don't get much out of making a Brickvine - it's not much of an enjoyable experience in the way that brickfilming can be.

I actually made a few Vine Videos- "Endt Moot" bring my favorite (some 2D animation), but since Vine is only accessible to SmartPhone users, as I've found out the hard way, I've never been able to post.  Maybe I'll put "Endt Moot" on my Vimeo page.

I didn't realize Vine was withering... it's extremely popular with the people I know!

I think the brickfilming market is out there. What I'd love though is for more people to appreciate it as an art, and not just a blood fest of stormtroopers shooting each other in 5 frames per second. Lots go and enjoy it for that, but they never really appreciate what goes into stop-motion animation. Many don't even realise that The LEGO Movie was CGI, and not stop-motion.

Re: We REALLY should have taken more advantage of Vine while it was big.

I never used Vine. I did, however, make a brickfilm in a .GIF (the original vines. mini/tongue)

Unfortunately, with both Vines and Gifs, you can only shoot a very short film, so basically, they are useless. Even for animation tests, because if you are testing your animation, you should test with the camera you are going to animate with, and with the aspect ratio you are planning on using.

In short, Vine is useless.
