Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary

The hard drive of the documentary footage has crossed the Atlantic safely and Penta's work as assistant editor is now well underway! At close to 2 terabytes of footage, there was too much data to transfer over the internet.

For the record I do have two backups in addition to the one I shipped to Europe.

Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary

Great to hear!  I am uber duber excited to see this thing.  I truly feel you, the crew, and the brickfilming community are making history.

Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary

I was wondering: Have the BiM Collection DVDs shipped yet? If not, when can we expect them to be shipped. I've yet to receive my copy, so I wasn't sure if I did something wrong along the line or what. Really looking forward to it!

Are we supposed to email you our shipping address? Don't see any place it'd go on KS.

Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary

No, they haven't shipped yet. There's a few more things that need to get finalized.
But they are sending out a survey soon that will gather and confirm shipping addresses, so keep an eye out for that.

Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary

I'm going to send out a survey to get the most up-to-date addresses when we're ready to ship.

I'm sorry for the delays. Doug (Vandy) has amassed about three times as much content as I had planned on for the collection, so it should be quite something to behold, but accordingly it seems he's hit some big delays getting everything finalized. I don't want to make another estimate on a ship date because it's up to Doug at this point.

edit: also Sonjira, what is with your signature?

Great to know stuff is moving along, and that the collection is going to be so massive. I eagerly anticipate it.

Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary

People who contributed at the 'Animator' level: If you haven't responded to us on Kickstarter, please do so immediately. I would like to end Animator of the Week soon in order to focus on other rewards and the documentary itself, so we're going to close the window on that a week from today. Thanks!

Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary

Editing is progressing well! I have about 20 minutes of footage edited together at the moment and it fits together nicely. There hasn't been much to say that we haven't already announced in previous updates, hence the lack of a Kickstarter update lately. I'm sorry about the delays on getting rewards out, it's outside my control but we're working on it and I think, hopefully, we'll see that come together soon.

Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary

Doug got me an ISO of the DVD for the BiM collection today and it's looking wonderful! I'm sorry for the delays, but it looks like things are coming together, now.

Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary

Sméagol is talking about the DVD collection of brickfilms, and not the documentary itself. As far as I'm aware, the collection DVD was not offered digitally. The estimate for completion of the documentary itself is the last quarter of this year, so that will hopefully be when digital copies of the doc will be sent.

Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary

sillypenta is correct. The digital copy (which is of the documentary itself, as opposed to the BiM collection DVD and Blu-ray, a collection of brickfilms) will be delivered before the end of the year if we stay on schedule. The original goal was December 2015, and I think that should be viable as we're currently on schedule to finish the film a couple of months before then and digital release shouldn't be a particularly complex process.

Although I will say, I don't know what the best way to distribute free (since the money was already paid) digital copies is. It's something I've never done before and need to look into.

Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary

Sorry for my late response, I have been very flat out busy.

So wait, the digital copy doesn't have all the actual videos of bim that was put in a collection? mini/eek

Cause thats what I thought I was ordering... ohh boy.

So the documentary is just of people talking about the film and not the actual animations itself?

I was really hyped for the animations mini/sad

Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary

Correct, the BiM Collection was a reward DVD and Blu-ray set put together to help raise funds for the documentary itself, which is what the Kickstarter is about. It has some new content (commentaries, a film by me and a film by NXTManiac) but it's mostly preexisting films. The novelty was primarily in the physical format.

The documentary is going to have LEGO animation in it, but it's primarily a live action documentary about brickfilmers.

Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary

Hey, I just saw that you guys sent out the form for the Moviegoer Reward shipping information. That's awesome! mini/bigsmile
One thing I'm wondering about, though: should we put our brickfilmer names on this as well? I was thinking something like:

Garry "TwickABrick" Moore

What should I do?

Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary

Real names only, please. In the interest of keeping it consistent, we'll be removing screen names included in submitted names.

Remember, your name as given will ultimately be eligible for an IMDb profile page!

Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary

All right, sounds good! I didn't know about the IMDb thing; that's cool.

EDIT: Did you guys ever get the high quality scan of The Magic Portal? I was just wondering if that was gonna be on the DVD or not. Last I remember hearing about it, it was still kinda up in the air.

Yeah! It's just a Special Thanks credit, but it will give each person a profile on the IMDb. I'll do my best to tie these to any existing profiles within the limits of my knowledge of the backers.

I'm sorry we mentioned The Magic Portal in the Kickstarter. It seemed pretty clear from our communications with the director, at the time, that he was enthusiastic about being included in the collection and offered to have it re-scanned in high quality. He later changed his mind about being involved with our project, so The Magic Portal won't be on the collection. I guess we should have gotten releases before the Kickstarter.

He was the only one to back out, though. The collection will have about three hours of content, not including the director commentaries that accompany most of the films.

What? No Magic Portal...? mini/twitch

Oh well, life happens I suppose.
A disappointment, but not (quite) the end of the world.
Was really glad to see that Kickstarter address request in my inbox, can't wait to get that DVD and keychain!

It's disappointing for me as well. I wasn't involved in the initial communication and perhaps there was a misunderstanding, but as I said, he changed his mind about providing official clearance after originally indicating that he was on board. He also said that The Magic Portal is different from what we do because it's professional and properly funded; perhaps he didn't realize most of the people we interviewed for the documentary have done professional animation work, often with The LEGO Group's involvement, as has the entire producting team. My understanding is that he felt uncomfortable being associated with this community, which he sees as beneath him, and with "brickfilming," which he sees his work as quite separate from. So, I've come to the conclusion that this omission from the collection (and the documentary itself) is probably for the best.

Bleh, Internet drama. I don't like explaining this in detail, and perhaps miscommunication is to blame for the way things have turned out (Doug would know better than I, because I wasn't the one in correspondence here), but I thought I needed to provide an explanation given that we're backing out on something we said would be included in the collection, and that we made every effort to include.
