Re: Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens

I have to agree that I think it'll be more of a passing of the torch kinda thing from the old heroes to the new heroes.

I don't think any of the old heroes have to die but I can see it possibly happening.
I think it might be Han but I don't know. What I do know (or think) is that with future installments of the new trilogy will focus less on the old and more with the new. Episode 7 is just a way of connecting the two trilogies together.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens

My point is that, in order to keep with (what I consider to be at least) Star Wars tradition and kill off one of the past main characters in the first film of a SW trilogy, I think the most logical choice would be to kill off Han. Imo, to kill off a main character in the first film of a Star Wars trilogy is just as important as having "I have a bad felling about this" and the Willhelm scream in every SW film.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens

I don't think many people would say killing a main character at the start of a trilogy is Star Wars tradition. I mean, there are only two trilogies, and Obi Wan's death was pretty different to Qui Gon's in terms of when in the film it happened and it's impact. Plus Obi Wan basically gave himself up knowing he'd become a ghost.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens

Killing Solo would kill whatever popularity they hope to churn up for the next two. In the trilogies Lucas killed off new characters. There's a difference in killing off new, unknown characters, and killing off beloved characters.

I've heard the same. But I've heard from some more reliable and recent reports that Han will indeed get the ax

Not a great justification, a double-post is still a double-post m9.

I like the art itself, although at first I thought Chewie was holding the ridiculous cannon in the top-right, giving the impression he was in some crazy rave pose.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens

Oh, so it seems I have not made any comment on this thread. I'll just quickly go over my thoughts:

I am extremely excited for this. As someone who hates the prequels, I know it's best for me to contain my excitement because the higher my hopes are, the more likely it is to disappoint. That being said, everything being put out so far looks great and looks like it's being handled with care and honor. Here's why I believe this film will be great:

1.) J.J Abrams: Great director. While many people criticize his Star Trek films, most of the criticism deals with the scripts. In terms of direction, they are well-paced, fun, and exciting movies. They actually feel more like Star Wars than Star Trek, so we know that this director can direct Star Wars. Additionally, he has always been a fan of Star Wars and sees it as the fans do. While he hasn't directly stated a dislike for the Prequels, it's obvious that he doesn't like them and is doing his best to avoid any mention of them (which is a good thing).

2.) Lawrence Kasdan: Great script writer. He wrote The Empire Strikes Back (the best SW movie) and co-wrote Return of the Jedi (the flaws in that were not his fault, they were George's). He knows and understands how the returning characters speak and interact, so that (hopefully) resolves questions of how they will feel after returning 30 years later.

3.) The Cast: From everything that has been shown, the cast, both new and young, seems very competent and excellent actors. I can't give any judgements but from what I've seen, it's looking great.

For all I know, all of this could be wrong and could be a terrible mess. But based on these people's histories, everything seems to be pointing really hard in the right direction.

It is actually a piece of leaked promo images. I'm just assuming that he saw it had been leaked and posted a small bit of it on Instagram. Here's the full image:

Re: Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens

Its probably nothing, but seeing that image makes me think that maybe Han dies, and Boyega's chatacter saves chewie from whoever killed han. Chewie would then have a new life debt (wookiee tradition) to owe to Boyega.

Also, if you have ever listened to the trailer through good earphones, you can hear another voice over it. Maybe that is who has the force too, and their sister has it.

If you're referring to the reverb in Luke's voice over, according to Mark Hamill during Star Wars Celebration, he rerecorded his lines from ROTJ and it was used as that deep reverb.

I wouldn't think so. If they're trying to keep the new generation in the forefront, I would think they would retire Chewie if such a thing did happen. I would think that he would go back and retire to Kashyyyk and live with his amazing and talented family, as evidenced by the outstanding 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special.
