Topic: Jem & The Holograms

I've been thinking about Jem & The Holograms a lot.  I'm not talking about the movie, which I haven't seen yet.  Before you reply about bad reviews, I know it got them.  I don't care about critics... never have.  But after writing a pilot for Cloak & Dagger, I kind of wanted to do something else using a pre-made licensed universe.  Like Cloak & Dagger, I wanted to do something I found interesting and at the same time wasn't done before in Lego.  I mean, I love Star Wars even though I've not been on the Episode VII thread.  That's because I want to go in to see the movie unspoiled by all the chatter, talk, speculation and other hype that didn't exist in the pre-social media world.  Okay, I'm off topic.

Anyway, I really would like to write something Jem & the Holograms, but totally updated for today.  It's perfect.  It's got glamour & glitter, fashion & fame!  There's music, and lots of color, perfect for Lego!  Imagine the custom minifigures!  Then there are the antagonists: The Misfits.  Boy, did they get vicious in the TV series!  My wife & I were so disappointed by the new comic book incarnation of Jem.  Jerrica herself is not the strong woman from the cartoon.  Instead she's a whiny, insecure wimp.  Most everywhere they strayed, they messed up. Not only that, the comic as a whole is slow-moving and dull, and reads like fan-fiction rather than an official comic.  That also helped get the ball rolling, thinking I could do a good rendition myself.  I'd like to try to rewrite Jem as an original, modern story with the Lego medium in mind, but without sucking out all of the magic it had in 1986.

What are your thoughts?
