Topic: Lifelites

I'm sure some people already know of this site, but for those of you who don't, I found an amazing site called Lifelites.com. They have an enormous selection of all different kinds of LED lights specifically made for LEGO® and other brick toys! I've come up with tons of ideas in my head on what you could use these for and I'm sure there are hundreds more I haven't even thought of. One of their coolest items is this. The wire is invisible.

Re: Lifelites

While I have been aware of Lifelites for years, I have never actually got any. I really should, as they look amazing in some of the animations I've seen mini/yes

Re: Lifelites

But then there's also Brickstuff, which sponsors lots of BiM contests. I've never used Lifelites, but from what I've heard, they're larger than Brickstuff. This can of course be good and bad, because larger wires means less breaking, but also means it's harder to hide them.

That's true. However for smaller scenes they have a large selection of these. They also have these for even smaller stuff. I've known about Brickstuff for a while and I like those too. I think it would be great to have a combination of both to have a little of the best of both worlds.

Re: Lifelites

I have both products from Brickstuff and from Lifelights.
I generally prefer Brickstuff, because the lights are much smaller and easier to hide.  I have never had a wire break on me, at least not yet.  However, Brickstuff lights are quite bright, which can be an issue.  To fix it, I usually cover the lights in a thin layer of blutack, which diffuses them well enough, and can help keep them secure too.
Lifelights can be useful in some purposes, but overall I find that they are more impractical.

Re: Lifelites

I on;ly animate with pure Lego, so I nevr bought LifeLights.  It doesn't mean I have anything against them!

Re: Lifelites

As a purist myself, I don't consider Lifelites or Brickstuff against the purist rules. It's a lighting technique, really. Kind of like using a desk lamp or something, it just an addition to your lighting setup. It doesn't really modify the LEGO itself.

Though, as an entirely LEGO-only approach, the light bricks LEGO made are decent, but they require watch batteries and are kinda large. But even then it's not entirely LEGO because most likely there's a non-LEGO desk lamp and non-LEGO camera being used to make the movie mini/tongue

Re: Lifelites

LEGO also makes lights as part of the power functions lines similar to lifelites and brickstuff, that are sized to integrate into the LEGO system, I have a couple. They use the power functions battery packs for power. It's nice that they fit precisely into a technic hole, but they're actually quite dim. They're good for accents (blinking indicator lights, etc), but they can't be used as an actual light source, which I find a little disappointing.

Those look really cool. Too bad they're kind of dim. I think Brickstuff is a little better than Lifelites with their standard lights, but I like some of Lifelites special items which Brickstuff doesn't have like their blinking color lights, flickering flame lights, etc.
