Topic: Manual Nikon Lens on Canon body Dragonframe problem

Hey guys, I've been searching far and wide for an answer to this problem, and I can't seem to solve it. I know there are experts in this field on bim that can help me out mini/wink

So, I occasionally would like to use my non-ai 35mm Nikkor lens on the Canon T5i for different shots, but whenever I use it in Dragonframe, the live-video feed shows it to be much darker than the final picture, making it practically useless for what I need. I am hoping that I can get it to look like it does when I have my Canon 18-55mm on the camera (it shows a very similar looking frame to the final one). Anyone know how I can get around this? Thanks.

Re: Manual Nikon Lens on Canon body Dragonframe problem

It's impossible to get it to be exact (though, Dragonframe claims their 60 dollar live view reset tool thingy does the trick, but I don't know of anyone who actually owns it), but you can get pretty close.

Turn your camera from Manual to Tv move (Shutter Priority) and shoot in that. This tells the camera that you want to manually adjust the shutter but it can manually determine the aperture. In the case of a manual lens, there is no way to control the aperture, so it assumes it's wide open and guesstimates the correct brightness of the shot. It sometimes gets pretty close, but most of the time it's pretty much way off. But it is definitely helpful for the live view so you can at least see out of it in dark scenes.

Re: Manual Nikon Lens on Canon body Dragonframe problem

You need to adjust your exposure preview offset to brighten the preview, I only shoot with manual lenses and I usually have this at +3 or +4

Thanks for the tips guys! I'll have to give it a try when I have time. I have a feeling that Exposure Preview Offset thing may do the trick.

Sometimes when you are shooting with something really stopped down like f/22 It can still be hard to use but for most uses that should do the trick. Let us know if it works mini/smile

Re: Manual Nikon Lens on Canon body Dragonframe problem

I used the exposure preview offset option, and set it to max (+4). That seemed to work pretty well. It was still not as lit as the final image, but it was much more bearable. After tinkering around with the lens, I made this video yesterday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqshKO4SlrU (It was also a good excuse to try out some Nikon extension tubes that I had laying around mini/smile ) Thanks for your help guys!

Looks good dude. Glad it worked out, you always have to remember the preview is just that, a preview.
