Re: The 2008 Bricks In Motion Awards RESULTS (Video Posted)

Unrenewable had a much better story than Pirates IMO; most people who liked Pirates for the story seemed to just go "wow, long film with lots of dialogue" while ignoring the questionable pacing and plot details.

Well you have done a reasonable effort to justify this but the fact remains the judges were mostly entrants:

Judges:
Sméagol            Multi - Winner
Nick Durron        Nominee
Nikolas Jaeger         Nominee
ManVan                 ?
Jordan Harris        Nominee
VN                        Nominee
Zach Macias        Winner
Lego Shark        Nominee
David Pagano        Nominee
NXTManiac

Read into this what you will but to me it means that the judges consisted of some of the best brickfilmers.
I must be ignorant if I have an opinion different to yours (and possibly the majority)?
Silly to have some the choices you came up with for best animation in 2008.
Were they really the best animations you could find?

We couldn't suggest or judge on the category that our films were nominated, so you think that we set this all up so we'd all would be? Heh. And just like Sméagol said, most of the best animators were chose to judge so most of them would obviously be nominated.

I don't think the awards were rigged in any way at all, but friendship between some users will have certainly come into account at some point a long the way.

Re: The 2008 Bricks In Motion Awards RESULTS (Video Posted)

I think it's fishy that Smeagol was a judge and was a mulit-winner

I am a nonfilming user...for now.

Re: The 2008 Bricks In Motion Awards RESULTS (Video Posted)

Sméagol would have only been able to nominate films (other than his own), not vote for the winner, since nominees couldn't vote in a category where they were competing. My ballot, for example, didn't have a Best Cinematography pick.

Re: The 2008 Bricks In Motion Awards RESULTS (Video Posted)

I think some of you are going a little overboard with your accusations. Philip made it clear that the judges did not nominate their own films.

I also agree with Nikolas that Unrenewable, though shorter, had a much stronger plot that Pirates.

Re: The 2008 Bricks In Motion Awards RESULTS (Video Posted)

Kinda funny to come back to these forums and see what people are saying about me.

Well I for one am honored to have had the limelight once in my brickfilming career. I have never been asked to be a judge for these things but I've been in the nominations twice now.

I agree my Pirate film was nothing special although I was hoping Joseph Frank would be nominated for his great music score.

Well hopefully I will make a comeback mini/wink I make live action shorts but when it comes to lego movies I can't help but make the short features.  Maybe it's the epic storyteller in me.  I have two scripts written for two new brickfilms.  One I'v begun building the sets to and that's the America Outlawed sequel.  The newest will yet again be another of the lego "classic" genre --- Castle! I can't wait to have time for that one! mini/smile

Cannedgravy?

Welcome to BiM! What you just did is called bumping an old thread. Look at the date of the last post. If it was over a week ago, you should generally steer clear of posting.

P.S. GO AMERICAN OUTLAWED!!!!!

Re: The 2008 Bricks In Motion Awards RESULTS (Video Posted)

lol, some people seem to think posting in old thread is terrible, even when it is completely relevant to the topic.

Re: The 2008 Bricks In Motion Awards RESULTS (Video Posted)

Indeed, he had something to contribute so this is a totally acceptable/desirable post.

Uh, um, oh yeah, I guess I kind of messed up, becuase I'm just too used to new members bumping and not saying anything relevant.

Lol thanks Smeeg.  Your awesome and someday we'll have to collaborate.  I remember you were going to help me with my pirate movie and even did a preliminary CG test.  I was wanting to ask you about making "ghost" lego figures.  I'll shoot you over an email sometime...

Hey, Canned Gravy! Nice to finally be able to meet you.  Welcome to BiM! mini/smile

You can do anything, just have fun while doing it.

I think James Morr deserved Best Screenplay.
