Re: The Free Software List

I removed Photoscape, it's too generic. I might add Squirlz. PSPad, same thing - a bit generic. And Wax is already on. And you have to be registered to use Zu3D, so Ill think about that.

Nothing works with my powershot either.:(

Re: The Free Software List

Reminder:

Found some excellent free software called Prism, for video format conversion for the Windows platform.

http://www.nchsoftware.com/prism/plus.html

It converts most formats.

I just converted a 238 MB avi file to a 188 MB mp4 file. It appears to work fine and the compression looks like it works really well.

The free version is a cut down version of the full one. It just hasn't got all the bells and whistles the full one has.

Re: The Free Software List

I need some sort of free DVD making software, so I can create menus and sub menu's etc.

Re: The Free Software List

Im on it.

EDIT: Sorted. I hope it's what youre after.

Re: The Free Software List

Hi.

The Axogon Composer link you give for windows, what version is it? Can it work on Vista?

Thanks.

You can do anything, just have fun while doing it.

Re: The Free Software List

Right click on the shortcut and go to 'properties'. Then, click on the 'compatibility' tab and click on the box right under 'compatibility mode' and click the drop down arrow and go to 'Windows XP (service pack 2)' and click OK.

Re: The Free Software List

I've been considering dumping MS and just getting Linux, but was worried I wouldn't be able to brickfilm. Is there any one who uses Linux here and the above software? Also, I just bought a 9000 on e-bay and hope it would work with Linux.

Re: The Free Software List

I used Kino and Stopmotion briefly, before I put my brickfilming on hiatus, and they seemed pretty good. Cinellera is very very powerful indeed. Audacity is a must of course. Rosegarden and Ardour are nice to have too.

Regarding the QCP9000, it will work (either out of the box on some distros, or with a very tiny bit of CL script on others). The only downside (although, you'll be brickfilming, so I guess it's irrelavent) is that it CANNOT autofocus. Only manual.

Re: The Free Software List

No auto-focus, darn.:D

I'm still not sure I can make the switch though, I really like Monkeyjam and I've also been considering buying XP.

Re: The Free Software List

Have you thought about dual booting to see if you like Linux, and could use it every day? It would give you an opportunity to see if you feel you can make the switch
You can always switch back to Window$ or Appl£ if you don't like it.
I still go back to XP for some things. Photoshop for example. And a few games. I also still use my Mac for some things - Marathon and QuarkXpress to name 2.

Re: The Free Software List

I downloaded avs video converter but it says it has to be activated with a code before it can take the watermark off the finished piece... Can someone help me with this? If not, then I might as well choose prism as a converter...

I just installed XP and Linux on a 20 gig partition, so we'll see how it works.

Re: The Free Software List

Good stuff Serrater.

And BBS? I didn't know about that. It's not mentioned on the site as far as I know. I'd try something else then.

Re: The Free Software List

No, it isn't free. It's about £530 above free, and Steinberg are people you don't want to mess with. So don't.

And cheers Dew, I'll check it out.

Re: The Free Software List

Add Detonation Films to the list, because they have tons of great effects, a lot are free, and all are royalty free, so you can use them even in Youtube's Copyright hysteria. They just ask for a line in the credits. (I emailed them about the copyright junk and that's what they said)
