Topic: Lego Paradise

Well, definitely not top quality. This was something I actually made over the New Year Holidays.
I'm just curious to see what other people think of it.

One thing that you'll notice in this music video of "Another day in Paradise" (Phil Collins) is that my style and technique changed drastically throughout filming. I also tried to experiment on unique shots and this was my first full go at 15 fps, had some issues with camera stability (by the end I had a better system, but I didn't have time to remake most of it), and major reflection issues

Well, tell me what you think!

Re: Lego Paradise

I like the way the animation is synced to the music in sertain places. The story was a bit predictable, but I couldnt think of a better way of letting it end. In my opinion you could have left out the scene where the woman is getting a hit. The lighting was good, but sometimes I could see the lamp and part of the camera reflecting in the windows of your sets. The animation was acceptable, allbeit a little jerky in some places.

And to fix the jerkyness of the dolly part at 2:09 Id advice to use a ruler to see how much your moving the cam.

Nice work!

Re: Lego Paradise

Thanks.
Though your mention about using a ruler for the dolly... I did, but as you pointed out, it still was a bit jerky. Possibly I just need to be a bit more careful in measuring...
And the reflection was something that I killed myself over. I've decided at this point I need to set a 10 second timer (as I have to do remote capture) and then just move way to the side. Annoying, but I don't really know how to fix the idea of reflection in windows... How would you avoid it?

Thanks for the criticism and quick reply mini/smile

Try to aim as little light as possible on the camera itself, and avoid views in which the camera's line of sight is perpendicular to the shiny wall.

Also wear dark clothes, as they reflect very little light onto your set. And take off watches or other shiny things.

Good luck!

Re: Lego Paradise

This music video was very fitting to the song (lyrics included) and I must say I like it very much mini/smile

Re: Lego Paradise

Nice big buildings, shame about the mix and match road plates, but we all have to work with what we have in our Lego collection.
There are some really nice bits in this, the buildings and other sets.
Watch out for reflections in windows, but on the whole a good film which shows you have a lot of potential.
Great job.

Re: Lego Paradise

Thanks everyone...
I'll definitely be experimenting with reducing reflection and trying new methods of lighting...
Recently I've gotten a new lamp which I can manipulate more and I've also tried to difuse the light with some paper, so I think it will be better after this.

Ain't it the truth... I considered just making a long street (where I wouldn't have that mismatch problem) but I was pretty intent on that layout so I went with it... Though constructing the large office building was quite fun mini/smile

Once again, thanks for the feedback mini/smile
