How well does calling for people to donate Lego work? I might try it to gain Bricks for an upcoming film.

You can do that? If I were you I would not go around asking for donations. Go to a garage sale, it's much easier.

Hm, not sure about that. It could work, depending on people's kindness. Though if you're looking for bricks for an upcoming film, it might be easier to just buy them off of Bricklink, as through donations, you'd expect to get a pretty random selection of bricks, and their condition would most likely be pretty bad. You could give it a go, I just wouldn't expect much if I were you.

Also, seeing as most of us are brickfilmers ourselves, we probably need as many bricks as possible for our own films...
It's not that we're meany faces, but we all need sets.
So here's the thing, I've A: Lost interest, and B: have no time to animate anymore. Expect little from me in the future. WIP projects have been pretty much abandoned and my LEGO collection is boxed up. No, you can't have it.

It never hurts to spread the word among friends and family that you are interested in anyone's bricks if they don't want them anymore, although you will probably get more of a response if you offer to buy them for a reasonable price. My friend's son got a great deal on a big bag of bricks at a thrift shop (second-hand store), too.

Maybe. Perhaps a friend who used to play with his LEGO Elements as a child and no longer looks at them. Maybe he'd be generous.

I actually was able to go to a local toy outlet here in town, I explained to them I was doing a film for a school project and would love to take any broken, opened, or returned LEGO sets. Surprisingly enough they gave me 3 sets that were opened but were missing a couple of pieces. Now they were able to do this because they said they could write it off and claim for it on taxes, so maybe you should try the same thing?

Goodwill is always a good place to troll about - I've heard it's where Target sends any such damaged toys, including LEGO.
In terms of looking for donations, you're probably best off asking people you personally know, who've perhaps outgrown their collections, rather than the Internet, were you're just another random user.
