yea, I dislike swear words because I think that they are bad scripting, in TOY there should be no swear words(if the film is before 1900) because i dare say that they would not have used such words, in 'Master and Commander' they said blood + 'Y' at the end, where as I think that in the 1600's they would not have blasphemed.

You obviously have never read Shakespeare, Twain, Poe, or any other famous literate from the pre-internal combustion engine era. I'd dare say that since the 1910's, we've become WAY more civil.

True, but they were true literates.

New sig coming soon...

Along with brickfilms...

Re: To curse or not to curse...

I hate curses.  They are not funny in any way, they're just corrupting the English language.

"I eat a lot of peanuts. It’s not a conscious thing, I just walk into the grocery store and somehow peanuts end up in my shopping basket. And then when I get home the peanuts are the first thing gone so I go back and get more and the cycle goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on." -- Adam Young

Re: To curse or not to curse...

It depends on what context you use it. Sometimes it fits, sometimes is useless, sometimes you use it to build your character (but you shouldn't abuse it). I do use it in real life, but not always, although I am horrified when I hear liettle children use swear words. It's our fault, but sometimes I just can't find a better word to exrpime myself (d'you know what I mean?).

Re: To curse or not to curse...

Cursing is stupid, period. What's the point of it anyways? Think about it. Not only is it corrupting the English language, like Rusty said, but it just doesn't make any sense to use it! If were really smart, then we should just use are vocabulary and add nothing else to it. I don't think their should be any swearing at all in life......but certainly not in movies.

Not that I agree with it. but sometimes swear words can help the film if you use them the correct way. For example swearing for humor is not funny at all but if you are making a serious film sometimes swear words might actually make the film sound better or even help the overall story.

But if you really need to swear don't bleep it out!!! (BLEEP sounds ruin a film) mini/sunnies

Generally if you intend to make something for all audiences then it's wiser not to use cursing.
If you aim at mature audience, which there is who enjoys Lego films. It's up to the maker.
But expect younger or hypocrite audience won't appreciate cursing in most cases.

Re: To curse or not to curse...

Sometimes it furthers a character, but it is done too widely (Yes, I'm talking to YOU, FF101) in cases that aren't relevant to the story. If it was about a cowboy or something cussing would be less pointless but spiderman? Really? mini/blankexpression

Re: To curse or not to curse...

Funny thing: people get upset if you use certain words in brickfilm, but violence doesn't seem to be an issue.
I dare to suggest that there are more brick "killings" (some with quite gruesome splatter..) than there are curse-words in the releases. So it 's okay to kill a minifig, as long as you do it with decent language?

This.

I mean, look, I used to be very 'anti-cursing', but now I couldn't care less. Now I'm not quite sure what it's like in america, but over here in ireland we use the F-bomb as a conjunction.

Actually, for me, violence is. :P It always bothers me seeing blood and LEGO. Especially when done with playdoh. It really grosses me out. Even though it doesn't so much with live action.

@ Onion: Actually, over here, for me, at least, I've never heard anyone use that word in my entire life.
I've heard recordings of it in movies and such, I've seen it written or typed. But I've never actually heard someone say it. Ever.
:)
But that's probably partially thanks to the fact that I hang around people who don't use bad words.

Re: To curse or not to curse...

Cursing is ok only if you're making a gangster/mafia/criminal movies and try to make them pretty realistic. Like Quentin Tarantino's "Reservoir Dogs" without the cursing it wouldn't be that realistic since the characters in the movie are criminals.
