Staff Review

Randy Yard:
It's not perfect, but "From the Shadows" is a far better film than the fact that it's a brickfilm with "Batman" in the title implies. With no story to speak of, this is two-and-a-half minutes of Batman beating the piss out of a seemingly endless wave of goons (most of whom need basic target practice, but I'm willing to forgive the director for using that basic Hollywood trope if you are). Solid animation and some very impressive camera work are on display, making this one of the better brickfilm fight scenes to come out in a while. However, there are flaws; basic lighting and non-descript sets do nothing to build a mysterious atmosphere, sometimes ill-fitting music is complemented by a noticeably small pool of sound effects, and after a few early stealth takedowns the fighting gets a bit repetitive. That said, none of these issues detracts too much from the film; this is still a fun watch, so if you're looking for a rare example of a brickfilm that does the Dark Knight justice, you've come to the right place.
