Topic: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

Some pictures of a set for my next film: Operation Blue Dragon.

The set shows a (not so) secret back door entry to the Red Faction base.

please comment.

Never fails to amaze me how many bricks you need for a relatively simple set like this.

BTW, the hatch in the back hinges up...

Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

Pretty nice. mini/smile I like the lighting, but it would be better if the rocks were composed of more slope bricks, sort of like this thing I built:

Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

Yes, unfortunately, the only sloped bricks i have are red. Anyway I was aiming for a rugged canyon kind of atmosphere...

Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

Alright. It still works without them. mini/smile

Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

Try to add some plates to the floor so it's not so "flat".

Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

Thanks, I'll try that.

Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

It works amazingly well for the "rugged canyon" look, one thing is to watch out for is that you rarely ever get overhangs; they occur sometimes, but not as often as you have them occurring in this set, and almost never at the bottom of a rock wall. But other than that, it's fantastic! mini/smile

kcirb-- its brick backwards.

Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

Oh! Something else I just realized is it might be nice to lose the black bricks. Because of the lack of other back bricks, it sort of looks out of place. And if you have and Power Miner Crystals, those could make some nice details. Just some suggestions...
I still like the set. mini/smile

Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

Power miner crystals play an essential role in the film and therefore cannot be used as random props. :-)

I really like this set, good job.

Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

create a cave around the door that creates a shadow over the door to add onto the "hidden" effect

I'd eat you in half if I wasn't playing with Legos right now!

Small teaser where I used this set:

This film is nowhere near being finished...

BTW, concerning the opening of the hatch: first it opens a little and at that point I intend to add an effect of escaping gas around the sides of the hatch. That's why it opens in two movements.

And... the walking Mecha which I posted earlier will also be a part of this film...

Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

Looks cool. I love the way the door hinges up, looks very realistic. Good work.

Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

Just shot a very ambitious "shot":

- Car jumps over an obstacle.
- When the car halfway clears the obstacle, I started panning the camera, to follow the landing of the car...
- The car flies through the air so I have a rig that I need to mask away.
- But due to the panning, I need a fresh "clear" frame for masking purposes.

So...

1) move the camera slightly (panning).
2) Remove all rigs and subject, take clean shot.
3) Put back the rig and subject, and take the actual shot.
4) Go to step one for next frame...

Edit: changed the Topic title...
But it looks like the result is going to be great.
To give you an idea (The red bricks are the rig):

Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

I'm exited about this film. mini/bigsmile
I love classic space. You execute it very nicely mini/smile

What's your estimated release window and length?

I'm getting more excited each shot I film. mini/lol

Another shot that was really fun to do: a dolly shot spanning 3 of them big gray baseplates... that one was also for the car...

Well, don't count on the film being released anytime soon. I have about 15% of the script shot in the last month. And I have in the order of 2 minutes of footage now... Postproduction will be quite a job: lots of masking and effects...

Edit: Maybe I shouldn't participate in so many of the animation challenges, then it will go faster but they're just so much fun...

Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

Wow. Just from the picture that film looks epic.
I tried to do one of those moving dollys masked and it failed epically.

Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

You should throw a Red vs Blue reference in there. Nice sets, it looks awesome.

Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

Well, this will be a Red vs Blue movie, but not like the famous Halo shorts. In this film they are called "Blue League" and "Red Faction"...

I'm trying to work on this a couple of hours per week, but progress is slow...
