Re: Community Forum Changes

I expect some people will just leave the site, rather than actually make a brickfilm.

But is that a problem?

THAC XIV entry here: (Never) Meant To Be

Re: Community Forum Changes

This new change, it sort of weeds out the people who don't really brickfilm and who just post in the community forum, and the ones who still have the drive to film, just need a reminder what the purpose of this site is.

Re: Community Forum Changes

Well despite my initial thoughts the absence of a community forum has helped this site out a lot. Every time I come on this site now i'm greeted by new posts that are well thought out and well written (Maybe they just want to get into the community forum lol) Anyways thats the last you will here of me till next week so bye.
(hopefully by the time I come back this flame war will be over)

Re: Community Forum Changes

I have to agree with Smeagol on this one. After all, this website is about brickfilming, and if we just talk about other things besides brickfilming, this site has no real purpose anymore.

I'm working on getting my studio back up and running, so stay posted...

Re: Community Forum Changes

Sorry y'all.

The community removal is good. Sorry NXT, sorry Smeagol, sorry Mcoov. Sorry EVERAHWONE.

To be honest though, I think we should hold a public meeting/thread where we can discuss the necessary changes before going onto BiM and seeing entire Topics abolished.

And to even prove your points further, I've finished animating a film which will come out this week. You were right, getting rid of the Community section was the right thing to do, sorry for being cynical and whiny, stubborn, and overly opinionated. mini/smile

Re: Community Forum Changes

Just as Smeagol had wanted, all of the other forums (Contests, Releases, Audio, Etc.) are busy. Every time I come on almost all to all of the forums have new posts, whereas before the change, usually only two to five of them had new posts, an the Community forum had the majority. I think it was a wise choice to take away the Community forum.

Re: Community Forum Changes

After listening to TBG and hearing how film-making focused Brickfilms.com was, I think this is a good choice. We need to focus more on film making, if the site is to not lose it's focus

Re: Community Forum Changes

Topitmunkydog's new topic 'Q&A Topic' seems to have resolved a few smaller problems, so this could in fact turn out well for all.

I don't make Brickfilms. I trade virtual hats.

Re: Community Forum Changes

I'm sorry but I still don't agree with it. Sure, there were some problems with inappropriate topics but that's the fun of it all. Don't tell me that getting birthday wishes from the community wasn't nice? And wasn't help when it came video games great? Wasn't it nice to be able to take a break from the brickfilms for a little while and talk about news, video games, and to be able to get help where it didn't fit other wise, like asking about setting up a YouTube account or something? I just don't agree, and nothing will be able to change that.

Re: Community Forum Changes

But you see, friends and family wish you Happy Birthday (which it's mine, I feel so sad coming on here). That's what Facebook is for. There are already video game forums and YouTube help amongst many other things elsewhere which often turn up here.

And I think if hell was a bad word it would be edited out, so don't worry.

I don't make Brickfilms. I trade virtual hats.

Re: Community Forum Changes

I am now 50-50 with this idea. I know the reason, don't tell it to me for the 3rd time. JT's posts are keeping me on the side that this was a bad idea and people like Hazzat and mcoov and Smeagol and all the other mods are keeping me on the side that this was a good idea. Well, all I can say is that if you want back into a community, visit here http://www.groups.google/group/BiM-community-group

I am not complaining in this post, just telling the truth.

I totally agree. A community vote should be held, or at least give us a heads up! I know as site owner you have that power but I don't think it's very fair. Look at the change througha member's eyes beofre you make it. It may help with the decision? Sorry, still mad. Will remain mad. mini/blankexpression

Agreed. We are just asking for a vote. If more votes get the community forum taken away again, so be it.

Re: Community Forum Changes

But this isn't a democracy. It's more of a constitutional monarchy

Re: Community Forum Changes

I feel confident that most people who are active enough here to bother voting would vote in favor of keeping the community forum open. I expect that 'keep the community forum open' would win pretty easily in a public vote. Most of the experienced, talented people who care about the filmmaking aspect have gotten fed up with this community and either left or cut down on their participation here greatly.  Seriously.

I respect peoples' opinions, but I put a good deal of time and effort into running this site, and so does the staff.  Everyone who helps keep this site running is unhappy with the state of it. The site as it was, focused on friends chatting about whatever they feel like that isn't related to the purpose of the site, isn't a site that interests me or that I'm willing to run.  I don't really get anything out of running this site, so if it doesn't feel worthwhile to me or anybody else who is helping run it, I want to either fix that or shut it down. The people who run this site did deliberate over it, and the vote to close the forum was unanimous among staff members who responded.

We closed the community forum knowing that it would upset and alienate some people.  The hope is that these are people who were here first and foremost for the community forum.  We wanted to get people who aren't here for the purpose of filmmaking to either shift their focus or leave, and this was deemed the most reasonable way to achieve that.

Re: Community Forum Changes

Yes, I agree with LampLight. Even though some members would be better off not being in the community forums (I won't name names), we could have a better system than just taking it away on a "whim". It could have been better planned out, and more inclusive, but what's done is done. If everyone improves their attitude, then they'll get back in. I don't see why people still complain. I'm unhappy about how they managed it, but I think that it's good that not everyone has access to the community forums.

Life isn't fair guys, deal with it.

Actually, in this situation, it's pretty fair. If you are here to brickfilm and contribute positively, you get to interact in the community forum. If you don't contribute to the brickfilming aspect of the site, then we have no reason to adhere to your wishes.

Not when the break never ends.

Re: Community Forum Changes

So you're saying that it doesn't matter if one of your favorite topics of forums gets closed or completely removed? It wouldn't matter if you didn't get a heads up or get a chance to have a say in weather or not it should be removed? I'm not trying to be rude here, just trying to see if I understand what you mean.
