The odd Story of a shark and a clown.

I made this film in just 18 days, which is pretty amazing considering that my last film took over a year. It's rushed, though, and it's a flicker fest, but I've managed to make a film to rival Bank in a very short amount of time, and I'm pretty happy about that.

Enjoy.

Re: Sharks and Clowns

I liked it! Cool and original story, almost like a fairytale, well done!:)

Re: Sharks and Clowns

Ahh! So much light flicker! It's like you animated this at a rave or something. mini/tongue

This was definitely as good as Bank, if not better. Loved the story and the clever take on "fencing." The animation was amazing as always. The effects were simple but very well done. Your style of visual effects is becoming as trademark as Mr. Munchy. All in all, it was a great brickfilm and very enjoyable to watch. Keep it up, ANP!

Re: Sharks and Clowns

Thanks, people. mini/smile

I don't always animate, but when I do, I do it at raves.
Really loud music and flashing lights always stimulates my artistic energy.

(JK) Yeah, I've seriously got a real flicker problem, I've noticed it. The odd thing is I have a solid lighting setup and all my settings are on manual, yet it still seems to be trying to adjust itself. I created a topic about it a little while ago whilst in the animation stage.

I really, really like having a fairytale setup. I made this a whole lot like another film I wanted to make called Leprechauns in France (which has not yet been filmed because I need an Irish voice actor). They both are the only films for which I have typed up a script instead of just remembering stuff and thinking up the rest as I go along, they both are narrated by Sonjira, both have yellow Arial Black text, and one of the characters has purple pants and a bow-tie.
Since I wasn't able to make that, but wanted to get a short film out before my Summer break ended, I made this. Hopefully, that film will come out sometime, too.

The narration really helps with explaining stuff in a short amount of time. Idea for a rushed film.

Re: Sharks and Clowns

Whoa, fantastic! Issac the Clown's accent was very funny, and I loved the "fencing". Once again you have created a fantastic brickfilm that not only looks great, but has a phenomenal script as well. Great work.

Do you have paper over your lamps? If you have a light flicker problem, paper usually tends to lessen the amount of flicker, and sometimes eliminate it all together.

I don't have time to watch this now, but I'll try to watch this when I get a chance mini/smile

Technically, no.
I've never ever before written a script and made a film of it until now.
So this is the first time I've created a fantastic brickfilm that not only looks great, but has a phenomenal script as well.

How in Equestria is paper going to lessen the flicker? That would just diffuse the light, and then probably catch fire since my lamps are kinda hot.

Also, guys, make sure you don't skip the credits like most people.
I keep funny stuff at the very end of my films. mini/smile

Re: Sharks and Clowns

Wow ANP that was awsome! mini/smile

Ahhh yeah!!!

Re: Sharks and Clowns

Yeah, good as always except that little light flicking parts.

Re: Sharks and Clowns

Great as usual!
Also, if you want paper over your lamps, keep it at least 4 inches from the bulb. And use baking paper. It neither gets hot nor does it catch fire.

Re: Sharks and Clowns

18 days? Wow mini/eek

There are many lights flickers, but I don't care about this, I loved the movie!

There was some light flicker, but everything else more than made up for that.

Re: Sharks and Clowns

First, I just want to say that I have already watched it three times today. mini/eh

The light flicker has already been mentioned, so I won't dwell on that. The intro was cool, (Poor Squid!) and the recap of the Clown/Shark feud was well done. But I couldn't understand what was said when the King popped up with the guns. Some of the other dialogue was hard to make out and took several viewings to finally learn the answer.

I liked the rainbow streaks, but thought it would be better if they faded away. As it is, they're there one second, and totally gone the next. (Despite being able to stick around until the end of the Shark's question.)

The "Fencing" was both ingenious and hilarious, as was the "Referee." And the ending was..... mini/XD
I have learned to stay after the credits, (For the same reason as MrLegoProductions) and was once again rewarded for doing so.

4.25/5 (Due to light-flicker.)

Re: Sharks and Clowns

I'm glad you people enjoy this. mini/smile

Yeah, I was afraid people might miss a few lines with Sonjira's odd (but wonderful) voice style with noises playing simultaneously, and the accents I decided to use.

And I probably should have done something about those rainbows. Taking two pictures every frame, one with it, and one without, I could easily have accomplished a fade.

Re: Sharks and Clowns

Wow! That was very good man! Even with the little bit of light flicker, it was still an amazing film, and went way beyond my expectations!

The paper also helps to block glare and lens flare, as well as giving softer, more natural (looking) lighting to your scene.

As for the heat, I don't know much to say about that (One of our lamps got so hot it melted the shield around it...).

Re: Sharks and Clowns

Time to chime in! Harrison, this is a great film! You captured the fairy tale feel, gave us a unique story, and made me want to watch this again. Oh, did I mention the animation was stellar? I couldn't care less about the light flicker; everything else about this film outweighed it. I especially enjoyed Isaac the Clown's (or should I say Brandon's?) voice acting.

I really loved that shot of the king shooting those guns... so cool! Wish there was more of that. Also, I was intrigued by the shots of the fiery clown and shark war scenes at the very end. That's something else I wish there were more of. The lighting was so dramatic and captivating.

The only part that could use some improvement was the narration, mainly because there were some points where I couldn't quite understand what the narrator was saying. Aside from those moments, the narration was good.

Overall a wonderful brickfilm that went straight into my favorite's list (your videos are well acquainted with it). I give it 5/5 because I enjoyed it so much.

P.S. Some great and memorable quotes were made in this film. I find myself quoting your films sometimes. Like, "I'd like to make a withdrawal please." (said in the character's voice of course)

Re: Sharks and Clowns

That was pretty good man.  You got loads of potential.  My only real problem with the film was the light flicker, which unfortunately was very distracting.  However, the story, the visuals, the animation, and the overall execution of the movie definitely make up for it.  Great work!

I'm really happy with how the apocalyptic wars shots turned out. Shortly after scripting I decided I would make a shot like that, and so I built the set for it. I was really excited to have all of that really cool lighting and see how well it would turn out. it took a really long time to animate that shot, but even though I brought Wilson in to move the flames behind the clown whilst I managed the clown and the flames in front of him, it still took a very long time. Making custom flares in post as took even longer.

Though I thought it was really cool, and I'm sure we all want to see more of that, this film isn't really about that war, it's about Gregory and Isaac. But I really like adding seriously cool little scene to be mixed up in that, and have such a wide range of stuff in such a little film.

I took some behind the scenes pictures if the shot:

I also shined a torch through the rock to cast some light on his face, and another to add a bit of light to the forward flames.

The ninja shot was far less complex in animation, but I really like how it went. I took the pit of fire, set is on its side, and shined some light through it near the back of the set. I shined a less bright light through the rock off screen to the left, then put one of my lamps very close to the wall and shining at it to give a very soft light to the set.

I have been considering making a spin-off of this story, unfortunately, I have a very limited supply of sharks and clowns, and only one shark head, but I could make it be about something else in Riigo-Faloo

Ya, sorry about that. mini/sad For some reason, my voice doesn't always tend to mix well with sound effects.
