I don't consider a baseplate a piece. Time to update the rules...

That's pretty preposterous. A baseplate is a piece. How could you leave such an important rule out to start the contest anyway?

On the subject, what about grey plate pieces that are connected to a green baseplate? Does that count as a grey baseplate as well?

Same here. I have several sets that are this way already filmed.

It would be unfair and illogical to enforce a rule which was not included in the original post, and is also contradicted by a rule in the original post, especially when so many days into a contest where many people's films rely on the nonexistence of this added rule.

Furthermore, there is no need for such a rule to exist.

Re: BRAWL 2013 Has Ended!

I think you'll have a mutiny on your hands if you try to change the rule retroactively, FS. I'm going to echo the other posts here in suggesting that there isn't any substantial reason to discount the base-plate as a mod element anyway.

Re: BRAWL 2013 Has Ended!

Guys, there are two sides here, and both have good points.

#1, Pro-baseplates. It wasn't listed in the original rules, many have filmed with that already resulting in mass disqualification. And a mutiny would occur should the rules be changed.

#2, Against-Baseplates. It's a very common rule in THACs and BRAWLs, and it's kinda understood that it would apply to all time-based challenges. Also, he did mean for it to be in the rules.

While I may or may not agree with rule itself, I'd say to let it slide this time, and if you wish it enforced in the future, be sure to include it in the rules.

Re: BRAWL 2013 Has Ended!

Like Pritchard said, the bricks on baseplate is a standard rule that is generally in all "time-based" contests. However I did fail to mention it at the start of BRAWL, so I will not disqualify entries that rely on the baseplate as a MOD element.

Sorry about that.

Oh, good. Then I don't have to re-shoot!

Thank you!

Thank you! mini/bigsmile

(I almost never have exposed baseplates so it's not really a problem personally, but I'm glad others won't have to re-shoot stuff)

I still think that the rule should be abandoned permanently, though.

Re: BRAWL 2013 Has Ended!

I've never got the 'no baseplate's rule' . I don't see how there is a possibility of cheating when there are about a million colour combinations possible. Its impossible to cheat with the colour element - only with the letter mod, but then its fairly obvious you've cheated.

Today's the last day I have to work on my entry, since I'm out all day Friday. Better get to it...

Actually, there are only about 36.
There are only nine colours to use: black, white, grey, red, yellow, green, blue, brown, and beige (I'm assuming that orange, purple, or pink would never be used, as they're less common colours, and a few people might have very few, or none at all).

There are several LEGO colours, but they all usually count as variations of those main colours.
Theoretically, someone could built a THAC/BRAWL cheat wall with every possible combination, however, this would be really ugly, and it would be very obvious that they had cheated.

Also, making a film beforehand doesn't work very well in any case since it probably wouldn't follow the theme.

BTW, is silver an acceptable variant of grey?

Whilst we're on the subject, is this okay?  The mod is out of focus but still visible.

I can't see the picture here.

But I had the mod element out of focus loads of times in my THAC film and it got through.
As long as you can still see it and it's there it should be okay.

Re: BRAWL 2013 Has Ended!

Ok so I don't really understand the mod part does it need to be in every frame or not like what if the camera pans up from a spot where multiple mods are visible to a spot with none? If this is a problem I will need to re animate a 20 second shot considering there isn't any cuts in that part just continuing camera movement. Also take not that at the end of the camera movement another mod is visible it's only in the middle

In the rules it says that the mod element must be in every shot, not every frame (however, it is that way in THAC).
If, at any point in your pan, a mod element was visible, then the shot's okay.

Still, it's a good guideline to keep the mod in every frame if you can.

If the mod element is clearly in the pan at some point in the shot, you will not be disqualified.

Re: BRAWL 2013 Has Ended!

Hi, I just wanna check before I animate,

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid … mp;theater

On the coffee mug closest to the screen, there is a small little "S".  Is it easy enough to see? I don't want to get disqualified for something as small as that.
