Topic: Share Your Test/WIP & Give Feedback

Not getting enough feedback on your test clips?  Think you need more critiques on your WIP?

Post your animation test or work in progress clip here and get some feedback.

In the same fashion as the Frame from Your Upcoming Film thread, some guidelines:

  • Thoughtful critiques are encouraged, personal attacks are discouraged.  And don't take the critiques too personal, they're meant to help you.

  • Minimum 2 feedbacks per clip, so wait your turn.

  • Test or WIP clips only.  Completed works go in the Release Forum.  So let's say nothing longer than 1 min in duration.

  • Don't make us download a 1 GB 5 second video.  Compress your clip or upload to YouTube or Vimeo.

  • Preview image allowed.  It encourages us to view it.

Mods/Admins: Revise rules as needed.

I'll start with an old clip:

Re: Share Your Test/WIP & Give Feedback

Firstly would like to say really great idea, and look very forward to seeing this more often!

now onto the critiquing, Great spider lech and great use of CGI, the spider reminds me of the big spider thing in Starwars Battlefront, is it going to be used for anything?

Re: Share Your Test/WIP & Give Feedback

I like the CGI test Lechnology! The whole machine brings me back nostalgic memories of the video game Jak II and    Jak III, where one of the minor enemies were red KG death bots.

Re: Share Your Test/WIP & Give Feedback

I think this is a much better way of presenting tests than creating a new thread for each one, really good idea.

Re: Share Your Test/WIP & Give Feedback

Thank you for your feedbacks.  The floor is now open.

Re: Share Your Test/WIP & Give Feedback

Hey guys got a test/WIP I just did, its on the Gospel Of John, which I really enjoyed making, its a short, but I wanted to make it a test see how it went, and I am quite pleased with it, I know what to do for the next time,

Its about Jesus approaching the man who was blind, and he made him see.

here it is!

Re: Share Your Test/WIP & Give Feedback

I thought it was well don, but I feel that if you had more interesting shots then just a wide shot would have improved the scene.

Going to be in an upcoming test film thingy.

Re: Share Your Test/WIP & Give Feedback

It was good, but do you think Jesus really wore gloves? Lol, I know this is nitpick-y, but it's just a thought.

The guy who got banned more times than DiCaprio said "f***" in The Wolf Of Wall Street.

Re: Share Your Test/WIP & Give Feedback

Willco66 Thanks, and yea I was thinking the same, I will be putting better sets in future for sure, I will be doing more different shot's in the future, just not really possible at the moment given the space I have, but I am working on it!

And Brickelodeon, mini/lol I knew someone was going to tell me that, I was aware of this all along, and I could have put him skin hands, and I didn't but yea nah it is a good point, I knew it was going to be mentioned sooner or later.

Thanks guys.

Re: Share Your Test/WIP & Give Feedback

@WoutStopmotion: The masking seems a little harsh around the edges. If you could soften that some how, it would greatly improve your films.

Re: Share Your Test/WIP & Give Feedback

I definitely wasn't expecting a comment about THAT. I mean, i don't even notice it myself watching the animation, so... Most likely for the final test movie i'll add motion blur to the figure, so you won't even see the edges at all:lol:

WoutStopmotion: The lighting seems to change somewhat after landing.  Also, the landing was a bit harsh for me.  Don't know how to explain.  But decent test.
Generalned: What Willco66 said.

Now I have a test here.  It's 1:07 long but I hope it's okay.  It's more of a compilation.

@stefan

Forgot to say that i know about the landing, i'll do something better later on.

LOVE the animation on the first test, the rest of them... meh. They aren't as smooth or good, and they're shaky too.

Yeah I know about the shakiness.  The last one was horrendous in that respect (for me anyway) but at least I know I may be improving (the first was one of my most recent).

As long as you know how to lock down your camera and set and set your camera settings to manual, you'll improve.  I guarantee it. mini/sunnies

Who doesn't love pandas?

It's for the BFCU Interactive Adventure. For the record, this is part of a short montage of 'worlds'. I have no idea what's going on.

Re: Share Your Test/WIP & Give Feedback

Animation looks good.  Some noticeable flickering, though.  And it was only from viewing a few more times did I actually notice you have a chromakeyed background.  Nice.  Without knowing your set up, I can't say for sure what's causing the flickering since they appear localized, suggesting it's your hand or clothing affecting the consistency.

I have a window. And it's huge. And although I have blackout blinds, they're badly fitted so loads of light gets in round the sides. *cue sadness*

Also, most of those brown bricks seem to be the world's most reflective pieces. The flicker was originally a lot more noticeable but I managed to hide the majority in AE. Glad the keyed background worked so well!
