Topic: LEGO Friends and LEGO System relations

Don't be afraid of the title of this topic! I made a topic to discuss how LEGO Friends (especially the mini-dolls) can connect to the LEGO System parts, because we were going way too off topic on another thread about this.

So, from my experiments, you can connect the LEGO Friends mini-doll parts to standard LEGO parts in many ways, though, most of them are not legal. Creepy, yes, legal, no. Even if you don't like LEGO Friends, look on the bright side, you can make some pretty crazy aliens and such out of them. mini/lol

Top-left: Mini-doll neck is standard LEGO pin (lightsaber stick sized). To connect a LEGO Minifiugre head, use a 1x1 round with a hole in it.

Top-right: The leg connection of mini-dolls connect to standard LEGO clips. The connection isn't the best, and is definitely not legal, but it opens up new MOC abilities.

Bottom-right: A LEGO Ninjago snake head (with a connection that is slightly larger than a LEGO 1x1 connection) fits on the LEGO Friends legs diagonally.

Botom-right: The bottom of a LEGO Friends torso allows a standard LEGO bar (like a lightsaver stick) to slide in, but the connection does not fit perfectly. It probably puts pressure on the torso and the stick slides around inside.

Please share your discoveries too!

Re: LEGO Friends and LEGO System relations

So far, I think only you made such discoveries, but I'll experiment with my Friends now for the sake of this topic.  You know, that also sounds creepy.....

It's not perfect, but the cleanest way to attach a minifig head to a minidoll torso is to use a Technic 1/2 Pin, same way I did it for this alien.

Wow, that's a good technique! I didn't even think of that. That looks much more natural. Thanks, Darkdragon. mini/smile

Re: LEGO Friends and LEGO System relations

In a small notebook I use for LEGO notes, I keep a sort of list of LEGO connection sizes in order of size, for the sole purpose of experimenting with connections. For example, if I find a circular shape on a piece and it's too loose in one connection I try, and too tight in another, then I check my book to see what is in between.

If someone would measure the length and width of the waist connection in millimeters, I'd be happy to check my book.

Did you know that the head on a minifigure trophy accessory is lightsaber-blade sized? Or that a lifesaver float piece fits around the stud of a Duplo brick? Or perhaps that the two circles below the stud on one of those weird birdlike control panel pieces (http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=2342)will fit into the wrist-hole of a minifigure?

Re: LEGO Friends and LEGO System relations

You can also squeeze 1x1 Lego Modulex bricks or studless bricks into the feet of a minifigure!

Really? That's cool. I've always wanted to get some Modulex bricks for my collection, and mess around with them. What do you mean by studless bricks? What I'm picturing wouldn't fit into a minifigure's foot.

Re: LEGO Friends and LEGO System relations

Oh!  In Lego's Modulex system, instead of tiles that are 1/3 the height of a regular brick, there are "tiles" that are the height of a standard Modulex brick!  So there are bricks and studless bricks!  But putting either under a Lego minifigure can allow the figure to stand in a Modulex environment.

Also, I have a lot of fun making Modulex modernist chairs for Lego Minifigures, especially the Paradisa figure I use as Chay in HOO episode 2 (and future eps).  They are a perfect fit for a chair that is 3 studs wide at the seat.  I use 1x5 (!) and 2x5 (!) Modulex bricks to make the chair 5 studs wide, and then put arm rests on each side, and the figure snugly fits in the 3-stud wide space in between.

Here's a pic from my upcoming film with 2 1x1 Modulex bricks on the counter.  You can kind of see how they fit into the feet of a minifigure.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the picture! I'll have to keep an eye out for good prices on Modulex bricks whenever I make a Bricklink order.

Just a heads up: Modulex bricks are almost always found from sellers in the Netherlands or Denmark.
