Topic: Take a Leap
Take a Leap
AKA the Cartoonkid didn't get to participate in THAC event.
It will be a small unofficial event that follows most of the same rules as the tradition THAC format but with some slight twists due to the less organised nature of the event.
Secondly if you want to enter you should think of a theme which is preferably a phrase so that I can put the best of the themes in a hat and draw one at 12GMT.
You must have a theme that you would like picked out by 10AM GMT on the day of the event.
Beyond that the rules are similar to the classic THAC rules.
To Borrow from Nathans post for the last THAC (Thac XIII):
WHAT IS TAKE A LEAP?
THAC is a brickfilming contest that lasts for exactly 24 hours. All brainstorming, writing, recording, animating, editing and submitting must be done within the time limit. It's a challenge, it's frantic, and it's a lot of fun!
Take a Leap is an unofficial event following the same basic guidelines of the official THAC but with some homegrown twists.
Take a Leap is not a contest, it's an event.
WHEN DOES TAKE A LEAP? START?
It starts at 12:00 GMT Saturday the 27th of February and ends at 12:00 GMT Sunday the 28th of February.
WHO CAN ENTER?
Anybody may enter.
THE RULES
Your entry must be entirely made and submitted during the 24-hour period. To prove this, mod elements must appear in every shot of your animation (more information below).
Your entry must consist primarily of LEGO (or similar building-block toy) stop-motion animation. Live-action, CGI, hand-drawn, or other forms of film or animation may be used to supplement your entry, but stop-motion animation must be the primary focus.
Your entry must consist of at least 30 seconds of stop-motion animation. There is no maximum time limit.
Mature content is allowed, but don't just use it for the sake of using it.
Use of copyrighted material (including music) is allowed, though discouraged. Using a preexisting IP is like writing a paper but half the paper is quotes from other people.
While copyrighted/trademarked properties are allowed, you are discouraged from basing your movie off of pre-existing franchises (Star Wars, Marvel, etc.). Its not original. Copyrighted music may be used, due to the time constraints. If you do not wish to do so, you are permitted to create original music beforehand. Original music does not have to be created within the 24 hour time limit.
THE JUDGES
There won't be any judges.
If it comes to it we will do either a community vote or a participant vote to decide who made the best film.
But you will all be winners!
THE PRIZES
Subject to change, but there most likely will not be any prizes.
You do get the satisfaction of knowing you managed to make a good film in 24 hours though.
WHAT IS DIFFERENT?
The unofficial Take a Leap event is very unofficial.
It's a grassroots film festival as it where as such it comes with a bunch of differences.
There's no judges. This is to allow everybody who would like to enter to enter.
But how can we be sure nobody is cheating? Because all the mod elements will be picked out of a hat on the day of the event to mark the start of the event. While we cannot prevent cheating entirely with this method, it's a fun event and I would hope that nobody cheats. I don't want to hear any accusations of cheating after the event is over. It is fun to attempt and the only person you would be cheating is yourself.
Who comes up with the theme? Remember above I asked that everybody who wants to try think up their own theme? On the day of the event I will draw one of the themes out of a hat to mark the start of the event.
Everything is subject to change up until the day of the event. If you have any suggestions please leave them here as I would love to hear them
THE THEME IS:
"And They Were Never Seen Again"
THE MOD ELEMENTS ARE:
The Letter H
Brown and Red
(If you drew the black and white challenge, you can submit pictures of your set to prove you have the mod element in it)
