Topic: TV screen glow

I am looking for a way to show a tv screen glowing in a dark room.  I unfortunately do not have a large budget for editing software, so don't have after effects or vegas.  Maybe the best way is just to shine an extra led from the tv.  If anyone has any ideas please let me know!
Thanks for the help!

Re: TV screen glow

An extra LED would be perfect. Also, a flashlight works too. Squid even used his iPod, built his set around it, and had it become a giant TV screen.

There are any number of great in-set options available.

Re: TV screen glow

Assuming the screen itself isn't showing, a practical light will look better than a digital effect anyway.

Re: TV screen glow

Where would you suggest buying a couple small leds...not a large budget but still nice.  Also, how would I, if I decided too, make an actual film appear on the tv?  some sort of green screen?  (sorry for all the questions...I am a new brickfilmer and need answers! ;-) )

Re: TV screen glow

I've always noticed that even color TVs mostly cast bluish light into a room, a cyan colored LED would be the most believable.
As far as compositing footage onto a TV screen, I would make the screen out of black pieces and then use the "screen" compositing mode when compositing in post.

Re: TV screen glow

what software would you use for the compositing?  I cannot get adobe ae or final cut or any other super expensive software

Re: TV screen glow

Hitfilm Express is a popular free video compositing software which should suit your needs just fine. I've barely gotten my toes into it, but I'm sure there are a few more experienced users around here if they'd like to chime in.
