Re: Collaborative BiM Half Hour Christmas Special!

I've looked into the time formatting for a half hour show, and while I couldn't find any hard answers, it seems like each station has their particular format, but overall it comes out to about 22 minutes of content and 8 minutes of commercials. I don't mind moving a minute or two in either direction depending on what people submit. Here's my idea for a timeline:

Show (opening): 3m
Commercial: 2m
Show: 8m
Commercial: 3m
Show: 8m
Commercial: 3m
Show (finale and credits) 3m

This can be tentative until we have all the submissions in, then when the framing device is created things might need to be adjusted slightly, and that's ok, but this should give us an idea of how much time we have for the different things.
If the commercials are exactly 15s or 30s each, then we could fit the exact number of commercials in the time slots.
Figuring in an extra 30 seconds or so for the introduction and reaction of each story, I'd say in 8 minutes we should be able to get 3 or 4 stories, depending on length.

Re: Collaborative BiM Half Hour Christmas Special!

Oooh, this sounds so fun! I'd love to submit something! What are we talking in terms of deadlines?

Re: Collaborative BiM Half Hour Christmas Special!

Great!
It's been a bit of a slow start, but I'm trying to more actively promote this now. I'd like everything in by the 23rd (which is Thankgsgiving here in the states) so there's time to edit and splice it all together. I'm trying to confirm who's doing memory/stories before then, since those brickfilmers will also be in the framing device story which still needs to be written, so confirmation on that part would be nice. As per the recommendations of a few people, I'll be making it a point to be on discord more to make it easier to discuss the topic.

By the way, there's a look at my sigfig.
Somewhat common parts. Brown legs, since the picture's color isn't clear.

Re: Collaborative BiM Half Hour Christmas Special!

I would love to be a part of this!  However, since I'm currently at college, I won't be able to really film anything until roughly a week before Christmas.  is there a specific day when we need videos submitted, or when this Christmas special should be finished and uploaded?

EDIT:
I just remembered that I might be going on a vacation for Christmas, so I'm not entirely sure if I will have the time to actually make a film.  I certainly will try to make one if I can.

Re: Collaborative BiM Half Hour Christmas Special!

Read your message, thistof, and I think I can get you something before the Thanksgiving deadline. I'm thinking of doing a memory story which, if permissible, will have a bit of a comedy angle. Does that sound alright? Also, my sig fig is fairly genetic and is based on Johnny Thunder, so I hope that won't cause the multi-minifig animator any problems (picture below.)

Anyways, I'm excited for what's ahead! Let me know what I need to do and what my parts need to look like. This is going to be a lot of fun! mini/bigsmile

Thanks Wammy, and good questions. I'd like to release maybe a week before Christmas, so the weekend of the 16th/17th
The show part will have to be edited long before then, but new commercials will be able to be spliced in closer to the end, so perhaps a commercial with it's shorter form and less stringent deadline would be the best bet for your schedule. I hope you get a chance to join in!

I should be able to make a commercial in that time.  I actually came up with an idea for a commercial this morning as i was working!

Re: Collaborative BiM Half Hour Christmas Special!

Alright so I went ahead and picked up a set for the special (https://brickset.com/sets/40262-1/Christmas-Train-Ride). This will make the setting for my story a little more festive, considering my limited bricks at the moment.

I also started recruiting some voices and am gonna write my script soon. In hindsight I wish I had bought this set too (https://brickset.com/sets/40263-1/Christmas-Town-Square) but I'm sure I could pick one up online pretty quickly.

Super excited to film this thing! Usually I don't prep this far in advance for anything Christmas but hey, if the stores can advertise this early, I can write, film, and voice this early mini/tongue

Re: Collaborative BiM Half Hour Christmas Special!

Will we be permitted to upload our videos for the Christmas Special to our own channel?

Re: Collaborative BiM Half Hour Christmas Special!

My script is complete, I’ve made one of two sets, and I hope to get all the voices by the end of the day.

Re: Collaborative BiM Half Hour Christmas Special!

Hey guys.

I am interested in participating in this collab, but don't have a ton of time so could only make about a one minute film.  I don't have many ideas for a christmas story, but I could probably pull together a comedic commercial if you still need more.

Re: Collaborative BiM Half Hour Christmas Special!

when should I have it done.  The original deadline was Halloween, so I want to make sure I am not holding you guys back.  If there isn't time I don't need to make one.

Re: Collaborative BiM Half Hour Christmas Special!

Final cutoff deadline for stories is Thanksgiving weekend.
Commercials aren't as crucial, since can be spliced in at the very end of editing, so there isn't a set deadline yet, but I'll announce that probably Thanksgiving weekend as well.

Re: Collaborative BiM Half Hour Christmas Special!

Well, I have a pretty good plan for my commercial and it shouldn't be too hard to script, build set, and film.  I should be done within the next two weeks.  Do you need the script first or can I just send it to you when I am done.  Not quite sure what the video sharing process is.

Re: Collaborative BiM Half Hour Christmas Special!

Sounds good! Submitting a script isn't necessary, but if you want to you can share it in the production thread to help get everyone inspired. http://www.bricksinmotion.com/forums/p … 9/#p371779

I've created a dropbox file request for any submissions. Everyone can upload files here. https://www.dropbox.com/request/yPJAEaCcNAjvMw2Kqj2d

For those doing story sequences, here is what I need you to upload:
* Your final video file. The beginning and ending should be without fade in/out, since the stories will be dissolved from the framing story as each narrator begins telling the story, and back in at the end. Titles aren't necessary, and neither are credits, since they will be included at the end of the entire show.
* Your list of credits as you wish them to appear in the end credits.
* A written paragraph of your narration of the story to be included in the script for the framing story. Voice over audio isn't needed just yet. Tell it as if you were telling the story without video. Most of this narration will not be used, but for editing sake it would be good to have so that there is a natural transition into and out of each story.
* A picture of your SigFig as you wish to be portrayed in the framing story. A few of you have already posted these pics in the production thread, and that's fine too.

For those doing commercials, here is what I need you to upload:
* Your final video file.
* Your list of credits as you wish them to appear in the end credits.

Re: Collaborative BiM Half Hour Christmas Special!

thistof, I just noticed that Pritchard and I share the same sigfig head! I'm assuming that you won't have two of that same head (if you do then problem solved mini/tongue) so I don't mind if my sigifg's head is replaced with another generic flesh head mini/smile

Who even reads this?

Re: Collaborative BiM Half Hour Christmas Special!

I actually like the idea of mixing flesh and yellow heads in this show, since it symbolizes the collaborative nature of the production. I simply don't have that many in my personal collection. The sooner everyone submits the pics of their figs (figures, that is!) mini/eek the better, to get an idea of what's needed and what's possible.

Here's what I have in terms of flesh colored heads:
Shaggy
Marty McFly
Doc Brown
Legolas
Gimli
Chell
Batman (the one that came with Dimensions)

But go ahead and post your ideal figure and we'll narrow it down from there.

And I suppose I should set a good example by posting my figure.
