Alright, so I downloaded Heron Animation to my new computer (Windows 10, 64 bit) and animated a project that turned out to be around 701 frames. The only problem is, when I try to export, It stops at 6 percent indefinitely (42 of the 701 frames). I really don't want to lose this footage.

If I can see the frames, I assume they are temporarily saved somewhere, for heron to either relocate or delete later. I've still got the program open, and would love to be able to retrieve the frames. I did not duplicate or delete any frames, although I did playback the animation at around that point, to which the play animation button turned red and clicking it did nothing. (hovering over it said "pause")

Help would be appreciated.

Hmm, based on my knowledge of webapps compiled, it's possible that the frames are in fact, not stored locally at all. They may be stored in the DOM (which is like the cache) somewhere. Thus, they're temporary and cease to exist when the program is closed. So definitely don't close the program. Hopefully Aiwha can help you more. I'm not sure of Heron is compiled in NWJS or Electron, but it may be possible to access the cache somehow. Again, I'm a novice on this, but yeah, don't close the program. They're probably not stored on the disk.

This is true, the is currently no way to retrieve the frames other than through the export option. I am really sorry about that.
I am currently making progress on the new version, which should be less buggy, and store the frames on the disk, making them accessible at any time.

Re: Heron Animation - My free stop-motion capture software and web app

Try this, it worked for me: I did that about four months ago, so hopefully I'm remembering it right.)

First, delete all the frames after the ghost 44. Then try to export those. It should work. Then, go back in, "undo" the erasing, then erase everything before the ghost 44, export those, and then you should have everything exported. More or less.

Onion skinning is a technique in stop motion animation to keep track of the smoothness of your animation. Basically, when you're animating, you overlay a "ghost image" of the previous frame over the live feed. This way, you can see exactly how much the image has changed (for example, while animating a minifig's arm). Here's a short Wikipedia page about it. I generally only use it if I've accidentally bumped my camera or set and need to realign it all.

I know I can click on a frame and then select the more options button to delete frames, but how would I undo deleting frames? Ctrl + Z ?

Re: Heron Animation - My free stop-motion capture software and web app

Went ahead and, as a precaution, screenshotted every frame. When I went back to the first frame and tried to delete it, the program immediately crashed. Glad I backed everything else up first - even if at less than satisfactory image quality. (Kinda fitting since I was filming on a quickcam pro 4000 to begin with mini/tongue )

I would LOVE if the program could be updated to save each frame as you shoot - perhaps even asking where to save/export at the beginning rather than at the end. Aside from this one issue, however, I've loved the program otherwise. Great free animation suite. mini/smile

Edit: Not sure if it was worth all the effort now... mini/confused (Scaled down to decrease gif size)

Nice animation there.
I do have to say most of the issues (duplicate frames and crashing when exporting) will be not that much of an issue if it saved each frame as you take it, so even if exporting at the end is bugged you can use the features then compile it in your editor of choice later.

Thanks!
Work is in progress, the frames will be saved in a folder chosen at the creation of the project (Dragonframe style), so even in case of a bug (which shouldn't happen anymore), the frames should still be available.
As I rewrote the program from scratch, I am currently remaking some already existing features, so the next release won't be full of new features, but there will be those who matter the most (project management, save & load system...).

Re: Heron Animation - My free stop-motion capture software and web app

Can't wait! mini/smile

Edit: I've noticed that, while using other programs (such as Microsoft's built-in camera feature) I'm able to utilize my C615's native photo resolution of 1920x1080. However, in Heron, the image size maxes out at the camera's video resolution size of 1280x720.

Do you have any plans on addressing this. If not, I guess I'll just have to get myself a C920 then mini/tongue

Re: Heron Animation - My free stop-motion capture software and web app

Dyland, there's a reason for that, and it's sad to say, but the C920 doesn't solve it.

I wrote:

*According to Logitech, and the way I understand things, the C910 can only live-feed 720p, due to limits on the USB bandwidth. It does allow higher than that with pictures and recordings, but not live-feed. Newer technologies (USB 3.0) may have solved that going forward. However, unless Heron is reprogrammed to grab still frames, instead of frames from the live-feed, it's impossible to get anything higher. Even the C920 is plagued by this, as it does not use a new enough version of USB

Re: Heron Animation - My free stop-motion capture software and web app

Any chance the exporting will be fixed soon? This is the best free program that fits all my picky requirements but it is kinda annoying exporting the frames and extracting all the stuff using the download version.

If it is fixed (which would be awesome!) you might want to fix the part on the website that says it isn't working, because that's what I've been checking every day or so for the last 4 months.

Re: Heron Animation - My free stop-motion capture software and web app

Has this project been abandoned? The link to the software homepage (and downloads) no longer work(s)...

Re: Heron Animation - My free stop-motion capture software and web app

I've updated the links in the first message of the thread. The project has not been abandoned, I've actually a new and less buggy version in the works. I have to admit that progress is slower than I'd like, though.

Re: Heron Animation - My free stop-motion capture software and web app

Thank goodness! This and Boats Animator have been real life-savers. I don't think I'd ever use any other programs for animation, tbh. They make webcam brickfilming so convenient.

Re: Heron Animation - My free stop-motion capture software and web app

Any update on Heron Animation since the last post?
Also, is there a connection between Heron animation and Eagle animation? They seem quite similar.

Hey! Since the last post, I released a new beta version (Windows & Linux only for now), which has features like Project Management, Autosaving to disk, German Language, and less bugs!
So you can now use the software without fear of loosing all your hard work.

I've also opened the source code on Github if any programmer wish to contribute: https://github.com/HeronAnimation/heron-animation

There is no connection between the two programs.

Re: Heron Animation - My free stop-motion capture software and web app

Hey,Heron has been working great for me recently but in the beta version I cant delete or duplicate frames.
