Topic: Humble Bundle: VEGAS Pro 14 for $20

Hey all!

Someone just informed me of this month's Humble Bundle which includes Magic VEGAS Pro 14 for just twenty bucks. I recommend getting this if you're in need of an editing program. Yes, this is the older version of VEGAS (they just release 15), but it's still really good for what it is. I've been using Movie Studio Platinum 12 forever so I can personally recommend VEGAS. I'm pretty sure this is Windows only, sadly.

Enjoy!

Re: Humble Bundle: VEGAS Pro 14 for $20

Thanks for the heads-up; just bought the lot. I really recommend others do the same. I think one of the most commonly asked questions around here is what is a good free video editing software, and my answer is always that there is no such thing and you must pay for good video editing software. $20 for Vegas Pro is crazy good.

Re: Humble Bundle: VEGAS Pro 14 for $20

I probably will buy it as well. I have version 12... what kinds of things tend to be changed/improved in new versions of Vegas? Does anyone know of specific things that have changed from 12 to 14?

I've been using Hitfilm Express for the past year or so which has been good enough for me - should I get the bundle anyway in case my needs increase? I know Vegas is better, but I just don't know what improvements there are that I would find use for.

And is any of the other software in the bundle worth using?

Dude that is a KILLER deal! Thanks for the heads up!

And now I'm paying the difference in the amount of recaptcha's I have to do.

Re: Humble Bundle: VEGAS Pro 14 for $20

Thanks for the heads up!
On impulse, I decided that my Sony Vegas Platinum Suite 11 (From 2011) needed a slight upgrade.
I'm excited to see all the upgrades and new features, and to finally get masking in my video editing program.

I've no idea what the other pieces of software may offer, but none look that useful. Audacity and GIMP probably outclass the photo and audio things, but I may download the music maker one just for kicks. Who knows.

I would get the bundle. Hitfilm is better with editing, but Sony Vegas has better sound editing as I know of. Sony Vegas isn't really meant to be compared with Hitfilm. Sony Vegas is great if you want to quickly edit videos and do some effects, but Hitfilm is better in editing as some of its features are better than the ones in Sony Vegas. For examples, keyframes. You also can't really edit some of the effects in there much so you can tell when a video has been edited in Sony Vegas. In conclusion, Sony Vegas is a good software for editing but if you need to do things such as keyframes or more effect heavy scenes, Hitfilm is the software to go. Seeing as this is a cheap bundle, get it anyways as Sony Vegas is a good software. I switch between both softwares which works for me. That is what I would recommend.

Re: Humble Bundle: VEGAS Pro 14 for $20

I'm curious about the audio stuff. Sony originally bought the suite from Sonic Foundry which included Vegas, SoundForge, Acid, etc. and was top notch pro audio software, from what I remember probably as far back as pro tools. Vegas was an NLE created originally by an audio company. Magix on the other hand used to make discount-bin garbage that you'd get for $20 at Circuit City, from what I remember. I was surprised that they were even still around when they bought Vegas from Sony. So the other audio software could go either way, but for Vegas alone, can't beat that price! Let's just hope they haven't done anything really weird with Vegas since v12

I can't tell specifics, but I know the main difference is maybe a few extra presets and performance/ quality of videos or the software being the main difference. Not as much about editing as far as improving quality of videos.

Re: Humble Bundle: VEGAS Pro 14 for $20

Vegas does have keyframes and stuff, but I've not used Hitfilm extensively for editing, so I haven't a clue whether or not Hitfilm is better. I'd say that Vegas is better to be honest. Hitfilm is just newer and advertises its features a lot more haha. Vegas seems to be relatively untouched by Magix except for improvements. I haven't liked much Magix software, but from what I've used of Vegas thus far, it seems like it's been well kept.

The keyframes in Hitfilm are better as its smoother and follows the object you are keyframing in better. Here's the link to a video comparing Hitfilm, Sony Vegas, and Premiere Pro and After Affects: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnXBvqIefzo

Re: Humble Bundle: VEGAS Pro 14 for $20

Post buyout Vegas is still Vegas, with the same team working on it. The UI for Vegas is way better than Hitfilm, I find it infinitely more intuitive. Vegas Pro 13 burned me hard with endless crashes and corrupted save files (almost didn't get a THAC film done in time because of this), but for $20 I'm willing to give v.14 a try, hopefully it's more stable. I've been using Premiere Elements for about a year and a half, and boy I miss all the stuff Vegas can do.

Re: Humble Bundle: VEGAS Pro 14 for $20

Hey all! Vegas is back on the Humble Bundle again! Maybe this will be a yearly thing, who knows? Anyway, get it while you can because the offer ends in 11 days.

Re: Humble Bundle: VEGAS Pro 14 for $20

I took advantage of this offer last year, and haven't touched another editing program since. Vegas Pro is a marvelous program - especially at such a steal.

I edited half of last year's Musical Advent Calendar on it, and have used it for every single video I've done since. Much better than Magix Pro Studio, the consumer version of Vegas 12, and Windows Movie Maker - all programs I had used before.

Vegas Pro, especially when coupled with GIMP (or photoshop) and Blender can really take you far - only limited by your imagination and ingenuity. If it was free, I have no doubts that it would quickly become the go-to for brickfilmers, indy filmmakers, and even professional studios.

But, for $20, you can't go wrong. If I didn't have it, I'd get it again. Glad to see they're offering it again this year! mini/smile

Thanks for the heads up, should be an upgrade from hd platinum 11.

Re: Humble Bundle: VEGAS Pro 14 for $20

It looks like version 15 in this new bundle. I'm tempted to upgrade, I've been using Vegas since before Sony bought it from Sonic Foundry, and while I shouldn't be spending money, $20 for this software is like paying a nickel for a steak and lobster dinner. I mean one that doesn't give you food poisoning.

Re: Humble Bundle: VEGAS Pro 14 for $20

Does this Vegas version support 3rd party pluggins? That's really the only thing I'm currently missing in Resolve. I'm not sure if this would be an update for me though because Resolve is already pretty good. mini/confused

Re: Humble Bundle: VEGAS Pro 14 for $20

It does. I knew a guy who even wrote a couple plugins himself.
