Topic: Free music making software?

I'm looking for a software that I can make music in for my brickfilms. It doesn't have to be anything spectacular, and it needs to be free. My friend owns an Alesis piano, so if you can connect any way to make music through the software instead of playing the actual piano, that would be great. Thanks! :)

Re: Free music making software?

Although I would recommend going for something like Mixcraft (one of the best DAWs for a relatively cheap price) Cakewalk is now free.

Cakewalk, a once fairly high-end DAW, is now being offered by BandLab for free. Previously the software (also called Sonar) was owned by Gibson. However, due to the company's bankruptcy, many of their assets were sold off. BandLab seems to have picked up the program, and is now offering it free of charge, provided you make a free account with them first.

I, myself, am pretty happy with Mixcraft, but downloaded Cakewalk anyway to utilize the included effects and instruments. However, for anyone looking to get into music, this is a fine opportunity.

I would go with FL Studio 20 trial version. FL Studio is probably the most popular DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) out right now meaning tutorials are very easy to find. Only big use is that you cannot edit saved work meaning you will have to leave the software open until you are 100% done and ready to save.
