Topic: Vengeance

Hello there! This is the thread where I will share all my progress on my brickfilm "Vengeance".

"Vengeance" revolves around the main characters Kain and Lanias. They both hate each other and try their best to make sure that the other one dies. The story is set in a post-apocalyptic steampunkish world with an oprespsive Imperium controlling pretty much everything and everyone. One branch of the Imperium is called "The Administration", a branch that acts sort of like a police force. There is also a fairly large Resistance movement with the goal to overthrow the Emperor and end the reign of the Imperium.

I've already set up a casting call here:

Feel free to audition if you haven't done so already!

I started filming some of the scenes that I already have the voices for. These following pictures are from some of the scenes that I've already shot:

Hope you like them, but bear in mind that I haven't colour corrected them or anything yet!

Now, lets just hope that I actually finish this thing mini/confused

Re: Vengeance

Wow, the sets are great. The fourth has a bit of a "Light coming through the studs" problem, and I'm not sure of the second if that's supposed to be a window or not, but I'm really impressed. I also like the use of roofs, it's not done often, and helps give and extra layer of realism.

If your animation quality and ability to avoid camera bumps has improved as much as your set building, then this is sure to be fantastic. Can't wait to see more!

Also, will you be cropping the frames to fit a 16X9 (Or even 2.35:1) aspect ratio? Doing so would help give it a much more professional and cinematic look, but you would have loose some of the amazing set details in the cropping process.

Re: Vengeance

Thanks! Yeah, I see what you mean with the light, I'll have to fix that, and yes the second one is a window. I will use the widescreen format in the finished film, but I'll fix that during post-production.

Re: Vengeance

Update! I've started working on the two sky-ships that will appear on several occasions in this film. Here are some pictures:

http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu146/Gammelsmurfen778/IMG_3004_zps1f6903a6.jpg
This is a normal sized sky-ship. You may notice that the steering wheel is missing, I have yet to recieve my order from bricklink.

http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu146/Gammelsmurfen778/IMG_3006_zpsd5cf97a8.jpg
These are supposed to be some sort of smaller guns. I will add big guns as well, probably about four of them.

http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu146/Gammelsmurfen778/IMG_3007_zps093ceb48.jpg
This is the bigger sky-ship, "The Aeolus". It will have more guns than the first one, most likely six in total.

And here's a comparison shot of the two sky-ships.

I'll add the balloons and the rigging later, but I want to finish the actual ships first. Comments and criticism is appreciated!

Re: Vengeance

Nice, very nice.
What are you going to use as the balloons? Brick creations, CGI, cloth around some sort of frame?
Whatever it is, I may have to steal that for use in STEAMPUNK. mini/wink

The decks seem a bit bare and empty right now, but adding guns and people should fix that.
You've done a great job on getting the curves and angles just right, and while the smaller one has a bit of a 'Chibi-Scale' feel, I like it.

I assume you'll be using green-screen for all the wide shots? What about the closer ones, will they be with colored paper, or green-screened as well?

Re: Vengeance

Thanks! I was planning on wrapping paper around a large plastic bottle, and then add bricks for the outside supports. Go ahead! You'll probably end up doing it better anyway mini/smile

Yes, green-screen for the wide shots and all the shots with weird angles, and printed out backgrounds for the close ups.

Re: Vengeance

So this is basically Star Wars crossed with Steampunk? mini/wink

Anyway, I've got to say I'm very impressed with your shots so far.  I love the lighting of the first set, and the large windows.  The rug is very nice too.  If this is anything to go by, I'm very excited for this film. mini/smile

Those are great, I'm super excited to see what they look like finished. mini/smile

Re: Vengeance

Small update:
I just finished shooting one out the five battle sequences in the movie. Here's a frame from the sequence:

http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu146/Gammelsmurfen778/IMG_3070_zpsd6f134c9.jpg

In this particular frame, Lanias takes cover behind his desk as the rebels storm in.

Re: Vengeance

Oh, LOVE the minifigure scale papers!
You obviously have a very good printer, and it shows.
I like the lighting as well, it's a neat evening type feel.

Can't wait to see this!

Re: Vengeance

These shots look really cool.
Also, how did you make such detailed paper?

Re: Vengeance

Thanks guys! mini/smile  The paper was made in a regular A4 size in photoshop. I then copied it into a word document and resized them to fit the figs' scale. There isn't actually anything relevant written on them though, except for the top. I think I just copied an article from wikipedia or something and changed the font mini/lol

Re: Vengeance

Nice updates so far. This looks promising. Also I hope that the dialogue won't fill everything in this movie. mini/lol

Re: Vengeance

Looks amazing. I recommend using sqirlz water reflections.

My website is in construction!

Re: Vengeance

Holy brickity brack...this looks pretty awesome. I love the lighting in all the pics. You seem to have a specialty in that kind of stuff, something I suck at. Anyways, this looks great! Can't wait for it to be released! mini/smile
(BTW, how did you do the paper in the 2nd and 9th pics?)

Moderator note: please do not use signatures larger than 400x100px.

>okay...

Re: Vengeance

Thank you for all your kind words sir! The paper is very easy to make:
First write your page on a regular A4 in photoshop (or something similar), you don't have to write anything relevant on them though, except for parts which will be readable. Then drag and drop the picture in a word document and re-size it so it suits your needs, so to speak. mini/smile

Re: Vengeance

This is a really nice looking project, SurfSmurf. Looking forward to seeing it come to fruition. Keep up the good updates as well!

Re: Vengeance

Whoa, how did you get that custom title, Repelling?  Did you become an Admin?

Re: Vengeance

Hello there! I've been working on this project on and off now for the last month and I've shot about 20% of all the scenes. The ones remaining are pretty minor though, so I've probably taken at least a third of all the actual pictures that I'll end up using.

Anyway! mini/bigsmile  After several changes to the design of the sky-ship balloon, it became more and more complicated. In the end it was just impossible to complete so I've more or less settled with the current look of it. Oh, and I also removed the smaller guns from the bridge, it ended up being way too cramped up there.

Maybe you noticed that building in the background too? That's a WIP of the miniature of the Tower of Administration:
