Topic: The THAC 11 Update Thread

There's only one week until THAC 11 mini/bigsmile
On this thread you can post pictures and comments about how you're preping, warming up, and eventualy making films for THAC 11

(I hope this isn't too early mini/shifty )

Re: The THAC 11 Update Thread

I'm making a test montage in preparation.  It's looking really good thus far.  Though I need to get Wilson to animate some tests as so I can enlist his help.

I'm building random sets just in case.  Really random.  I probably won't need most of them, but it's nice to have extra sets lying about, and just building anything gets one in the building spirit even if you decide upon not using any or them.
So far I have an Autumn forest which can be easily modified into another sort of exterior scene, a place in Gotham City left over from my last scene in I am the Night, and I'm working on a scifi interior set, a rocky light grey landscape, and I'm hoping to build a dungeon or evil lair.

My strategy is to make the primary characters of the film be some people who fit the colour mod very well as so I won't have to worry that much, and then have some sort of story revolving around them that fits the theme.
For instance if the colour mod were red and yellow, then I would probably make it be about the Crimson Gumdrop or a builder or something.  If it were black and white, I'd probably use Sir Squid or Lord Redgrave.

I've also made a very detailed list of preparations to make which is mostly done along with a list of how I plan to spend every hour of THAC.
If anyone would like to enlist my aid in voice acting on THAC, it would be best to do it between the hours of 9 and 12 EST.

Re: The THAC 11 Update Thread

I decided to make a Christmas in a Minute entry as a warm up.  I haven't animated with bricks in quite awhile.  I plan to drink a lot more coffee this year...

Re: The THAC 11 Update Thread

After Christmas when I'm home I'm going to animate a couple of 5 or so second skits to brush a year's worth of stop motion rust off.

Re: The THAC 11 Update Thread

For CiM, I've written the screenplay. I think I'll have to make this a last-minute thing, just like with BRAWL, which probably won't put me too high up in the final contest results. But really, the last three days of the contest are going to be the only days I'll actually be able to get to animate. School, and Youth Group, and family stuff gets in the way. But, thank goodness I only have to throw together a minute of animation. Phew!

Re: The THAC 11 Update Thread

Mickey, this about THAC 11 not Christmas in a minute 2013. Can you explain to me what this has to do with THAC.

Re: The THAC 11 Update Thread

I just made a test today and published it as entry on "Christmas in a Minute". I'm not really glad from the effect, but it was only 3 hours...

Why are people talking about Christmas in a minute mini/confused ? This is about THAC 11. Let's stay on topic please.

Seeing as though you'd like to hear us talk about how we're warming up for THAC, it would seem appropriate to share our progress on a warmup contest. These are the problems you'll have when you post a contest update thread before the said contest even begins. But, it is your thread...

Re: The THAC 11 Update Thread

I see were the confusion was. What I was trying to mean was things like THAC test montages like these:

also I meant like getting your legos and equipment ready for THAC, but I do see were the confusion was mini/wink

Maybe I should have waited till a day before like the last one mini/blankexpression

Re: The THAC 11 Update Thread

Since we are all preparing for THAC and warming up, I think this song could help out:

Also, If anybody likes to listen to music while animating, I made a playlist:

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P … re=mh_lolz

Its mainly just musical scores. I think the Sherlock Holmes stuff is really great for animating, its pretty fast paced.

no more brickfilming *sad face*.

Re: The THAC 11 Update Thread

I'm only going to have one song playing whilst I animate... and that song won't exist until a few hours in. Just saying.

That's a pretty good playlist! I might listen to that, but I'd add some of my personal favorites. mini/smile

Re: The THAC 11 Update Thread

I see what you did there, Sean.

Re: The THAC 11 Update Thread

My music playlist right now is going through the LOTR/Hobbit soundtracks, and then throwing some Doctor Who, POTC, and maybe Star Wars in there as well. But that may change if my family doesn't like my playing it through speakers...

Sorry for the low image size, but here's a set I built.
If it can fit in the theme, I'd love to do a snowy battle/fight scene, but I'll have to work on getting more dark and dramatic color-correction. I'm thinking it may need some more trans-clear 'ice' and maybe a bit more dark gray to break up the white.

And here's what a frame could look like. Complete with a lens flare and a random yeti.
(No, I'm not planing on ripping off anybody else, the yeti is just there in the pics for atmosphere.)

If you're rushing at the end to finish, it's best to listen to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pk6AobT_SDo

EDIT: Also, I just realized that song fits my avatar, so that's another reason for me to listen to it.

Re: The THAC 11 Update Thread

That's a nice set there.  I especially like how you have some arches.  I should add some to my grey landscape.

It's a shame that the only colour mod with which that would work would be grey and white, which it most likely won't be since that was the colour mod last year, and though they might re-use a colour mod eventually, I don't think it's going to be that soon.

However, so long as the characters you pick fit, then there shouldn't be too much of a problem, and you could still add props or a house easily, or maybe have that just be one set and do some other stuff.  Anything could happen.

I'd suggest making the light a little softer of you can, though, and just the slightest bit dimmer.
And if you want one of my long flares, just ask.

I've almost finished my medieval interior set.  It can quite easily be decorated as a throne room of bedroom or whatever castle room I want.  I did something clever with the corners which looks really nice.  But who knows, I might use the scifi sets, or the city set, or the forest.  I'm really well prepared.

I have over 1000 frames on my test montage and it's looking really good.  I also had Wilson help out and he's made some weird little sketches in there.  About half way through animating I'm planning on switching the card on the camera so that Wilson can animate as I put the other half on the computer and begin editing.

WHO GAVE YOU PERMISSION TO BRING THAT BACK

I'm kind of worried that this year I'm going to end up trying to make a film that's too long and not being able to have enough time to actually make it.

Re: The THAC 11 Update Thread

@Pritchard
That does look really nice.  I think if you have some trans-clear (like white almost) or especially some trans-light blue (like the color of the repulsers in all the Iron Man sets), trans-light blue looks awesome in those kind of landscapes.
