Topic: The Sets, Props and Figs Inspiration Thread

Please close if dupe.

This is a thread for any pictures of LEGO models from the internet that have inspired you in your brickfilming. For instance, this had been an inspiration for La Conquista II, which I'm currently in pre-production on.

Please try to post who/where you got your pictures from, and try to say even just a little bit about what each picture inspired you to make or how it did.

Re: The Sets, Props and Figs Inspiration Thread

Cool thread, I'll select a few of my favourites from Flickr and add them to my post later today.

A big inspiration in composing images and lighting is Alex Eylar, also known as Profound Whatever.
His Flickr photostream: http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoyvinmayv … 789001854/

He has recreated several scenes from movies, and never fails to add a great atmosphere to his pictures through lighting.

This one is from Legoagogo (http://www.flickr.com/photos/legoagogo/)
He is also really good at lighting a scene.

These are just a few cool shots from them. Check out the links for more.

I am also on Flickr, but not active anymore.

Re: The Sets, Props and Figs Inspiration Thread

What's so special? It's just a messy building with light shining through. Plus, those bricks have tiny gaps in them everywhere and it just looks ugly to be honest.

Well, in my opinion it's cool because 1. when you first glance at it it looks like real life, not LEGO. 2. It has great lighting.

Re: The Sets, Props and Figs Inspiration Thread

Nah, it's too blocky to be real life.

Re: The Sets, Props and Figs Inspiration Thread

I think it's meant to look ugly, and it succeeds, which is what makes it cool.

Re: The Sets, Props and Figs Inspiration Thread

I personally love the use of mixing tiles and plates to get the sometimes studded/sometimes not flooring.
Plus the light shining through the windows is just amazing. Clicking on the picture brings you to a brighter-lite version so you can see all the building techniques and hidden details that really make this shine.
The ceiling could be better and a handful of gaps closed up, but otherwise it's pretty sweet.

Re: The Sets, Props and Figs Inspiration Thread

I'm going to upload all of my crappy builds to Flickr then and i'm SURE they'll instantly get blogged by TBB because they succeed perfectly in being ugly. Yeah.

I kind of agree with Wout, it isn't the most exciting thing, sure, anyone can do that if they wanted to! I have seen better, but I have seen a lot worse!

Re: The Sets, Props and Figs Inspiration Thread

Yuppity, I'm a doofus.

I updated the gurney design I was working on a few weeks ago. I added the wheels, which I think looks much better. What do you peoples think?

I also re-designed the hospital bed design. I actually did as best I could to recreate the hospital bed from The Profession. (I hope that's okay)

Wrong thread...

Re: The Sets, Props and Figs Inspiration Thread

Woah. The first three words are the same... whoops. Sorry.

Clearly you have an underdeveloped sense of appreciation for ruined buildings.

Re: The Sets, Props and Figs Inspiration Thread

I wish I could build something as "ugly" and as amazing as that...

I don't think just anybody could make such a well done decrepit factory-like building.

Seriously that's amazing tough.

Re: The Sets, Props and Figs Inspiration Thread

I swear, if i had the bricks, i could build that. Problem is that it's a truckload of bricks, so...

Really though. It's a bunch of oversized walls with studs on them everywhere and some overly square decay on it, plus a near-random baseplate. The light shines through and because it's made out of plastic, it looks as if the whole thing is coated in water. Floors like those shouldn't be reflected, it makes the whole thing look ugly. And the lighting looks as if someone put a gigantic array of neon tubes next to the windows. The background is bad. It feels like the builder didn't even try to make the background good. You can see bits and pieces through the windows, like, at least make a damn effort and put a white paper in front of it. The entire picture has been shot very grainy too. Blergh.

I didn't feel like writing this entire bit because everyone's going to think i'm a jerk. I am, but still...

Woah, calm down bro, it's just a picture. We all have differences in taste, if you don't see what the guy was trying to do then okay. Whatever. Let's change the subject.

You've made your point. Quite a few times. Are there any builds that inspire you? (I thought that was what this thread was about).

Re: The Sets, Props and Figs Inspiration Thread

Well, i just said that i didn't like it, and not to sound like a jerk i didn't explain why yet, which that post did.

I don't really know how to find builds or what builders are good so i don't know any. I really just check TBB every day and that's it.
