Topic: Famous Fans of Our Films

Most of us know by now that the creators of "The Lego Movie" are huge fans of our films.
My next question is...do you know of anyone else famous or high profile that is also a fan?

So far...
Smeagol mentioned Donald Faison from "Scrubs."
From what I've heard, Swoozie is also a fan.
Not for certain, but someone in the chatroom mentioned the creators of Robot Chicken.

I wouldn't be where I am today if it weren't for Parry Gripp.

Weird Al has several brickfilm music videos linked from his website.

Re: Famous Fans of Our Films

I am just feeling so giddy and kinda exploding on the inside, so I think I'll post this here. It's nobody famous but somebody who has resources to help me be the filmmaker that I aspire to be.

See, a little bird told me this multi-national organization I've been stalking is a little unhappy the caricature animation they've been using for their internal trainings (occupational health and safety, customer service, sexual harrassment, etc.) were expensive and ineffective. So I've been using my LinkedIn profile to view 'strategic personnel' there hoping they would view me back and send me an RFP. The problem is, the human resources profile is hidden and in order to get to her, I would need to look at the Regional Director's profile to get to his Suggested Profiles. After that, still no view-backs or RFPs. So I pulled out my hair..... and came up with the cleverest and wittiest comments I could think of, and left those comments in a network they started as well as on their Youtube channel.

Lo and behold!....I got an email requesting a meeting. I brushed my teeth and wore pants to the meeting. Barely 5 minutes in and I could tell the Human Resources lady was probably doing her nails while she was watching my videos. But then...all of a sudden....out of nowhere, the Regional Director (the one whose profile I viewed to view the HR lady's profile) came into the meeting room. He sat down and started talking about my videos to the HR lady. I swear he was more excited about my videos than I am. I knew he watched them for real because he knew all the details of the stuff I was trying out.

I cannot go into specifics of what happened after that due to non-disclosure agreements but I came out of a meeting feeling like a million bucks. On any other day, this Regional Director guy would have probably driven past me without even caring if I existed. Now I am thinking, wait, people like that watch Youtube videos ???? wait, people like that watch my Youtube videos ???!??? and people like that can actually get excited about stuff they see on the internet ??? (they are usually very cold and reserved and very poised)

In all honesty, this deal might not amount to much but I will always remember the facial expressions and the excitement in the tone of voice of this guy. I think I will remember this meeting for a long long time to come, and I believe this fateful encounter will probably be the push that I needed just to take things to the next level.

I am tempted to say, for now, sometimes these kinda things are worth more than money. I might change my mind tomorrow but for tonight, I am gonna replay this incident in my head over and over 'til I get sick of it.

Re: Famous Fans of Our Films

JF, the stats can give all kinds of info & demographics, but all viewers are equal... you never know how famous the viewer is.

My next BrickFilm has Ann Coulter in the script.  Just for kicks, I emailed her to see if she wanted to portray herself.  I never heard back.  I didn't expect to, of course, but I knew I'd definitely not hear from her if I didn't send.

It's cool, because the very talented Anna Hostert is voicing Ann for me, and she will play a friend of Angela's in the future as a semi-regular character.

Re: Famous Fans of Our Films

not to brag or nothin but my mom's a huge fan of my films

Re: Famous Fans of Our Films

I had a work experience interview with a video marketing agency once. It went well, and then just as I was leaving I mentioned something about my YouTube channel. My interviewer, who was the head of the video part of the agency, went to a meeting 20 minutes late because he wanted to hear about my videos, the revenue I'd made from them, how I'd done search engine optimisation blah blah blah. I managed to get two separate shoots out of them (which is epic considering they weren't technically allowed to take on under 18s for work ex, and I was 16 at the time) and a voice-over job for a corporate video. It's nice that he appreciated my videos that much.

Then when I got a summer job at a VFX company last August, I only had to mention YouTube and the interview was spent watching all my videos. Funnily enough, one of the guys who worked there had made what I guess is the Playmobil equivalent of a brickfilm, which made me feel a lot more confident about being about to show my brickfilms to, you know, people.

Re: Famous Fans of Our Films

I a not cognizant of any famous fans of my films.
However, my most popular film does have half a million views, so it stands to reason that one of those many people who saw it night have been famous, of course, I'd have no way of knowing, and even if one did see it, I don't know if they would have liked it.

In my entire life, I've never met anyone who is famous, with the exception of David Pagano who is a sort of a celebrity in the LEGO world, and a professional LEGO Designer who has made some videos for LEGO (though, I do not think he has ever seen any of my films, though he liked my rock detail on my Pirate hideout set).

Re: Famous Fans of Our Films

I met somebody from action news in Philadelphia & gave her a Holding Our Own business card.

Re: Famous Fans of Our Films

One of the manager's of the Christian rock band Third Day took notice of the music video my sister and I made for their song "Rockstar"

Several months later, we went to one of their concerts and they showed the video during the intermission. That was really cool of them mini/smile

Re: Famous Fans of Our Films

I believe that the Newsboys had a DVD handed to them at one of their concerts, which had a brickfilm music video of their "Born Again." A few weeks later they uploaded it to their YouTube channel and website, which was pretty cool.

Re: Famous Fans of Our Films

Well, Cometgreen's/Asteroidmagenta's music video "All My Friends" has a massive reach according to his site.

And, of course, Raj Nair of Liberty Treehouse is a fan of John D Thunder, referring to this thread:

Re: Famous Fans of Our Films

I've often wondered if the creators of "The Big Bang Theory" are secretly fans of our films or this website.
They mention stopmotion Lego movies in one episode.

I was so giddy when this episode first aired.
Rushed into the chat room the next day and couldn't stop talking about it.
Felt so awesome being validated. mini/smile

Re: Famous Fans of Our Films

Yeah, I mentioned this when it 1st aired.  Leonard is the one who makes the BrickFilms.  Howard said, "It's not enough to make the Legos [sic] move; they've also got to capture your heart."  I'd like to see one of Leonard's animations.  Also, Sheldon was building the 2005 Lego Death Star, and sometimes Raj wants to go to Legoland.

EA took notice of my film once, but I don't know if that really constitutes as "famous"

I'm pretty sure Sheldon said he used Legos [sic] to make a CAT scanner that he had to plug to his head by himself when he was 9. But this was quite some time back, way before Blossom became his girlfriend.

I think I saw the word LEGO on one of Chuck Lorre's vanity card. Didn't bother to check it back then.

Even if they're not into brickfilms, they must be into MOCing.

Re: Famous Fans of Our Films

I'm sure that this film had to equate to someone famous liking brickfilms. Sure Dylan Woodley is a famous brickfilmer, but at least brickfilms get more notice for the video.

Also, Fancypants made this brickfilm as an advertisement for LucasArts. More fame.

Re: Famous Fans of Our Films

Back in the day, a filmer named Protowrxs, who was known for his creative music videos, made "Mirror Star".
Proto contacted the Fabulous Poodles and showed them the film. Tony Demur from the Fabulous Poodles loved it so much, at one point it was on the front page of their fan website. Some of this is mentioned on the YouTube page.

Protowrxs also made "Any Gal of Mine" (parody of Shania Twain's Any Guy of Mine) by Gino Ruberto.
The creators love it and featured it on their website.

Hot Waffles (random band featured in the "The People VS George Lucas") once posted this on the bookface about a "music video" I did with one of their most famous songs.
