Topic: The James Bond Discussion Thread

The place for all things to do with our favorite Mi6 agent. Now I'd like this discussion shaken... not stirred.

Who is your favorite Bond? Dalton, Lazenby, Connery... David Niven? mini/eek

Re: The James Bond Discussion Thread

Sean Connery is the best, Roger Moore is the worst. Goldfinger is amazing.

Ok, end of discussion, somebody close the thread.

no more brickfilming *sad face*.

I agree, Pushover: Sean Connery "ish shurley shtupendoush", if you'll pardon the misspelled words.

Re: The James Bond Discussion Thread

I'm a Dalton fan. He brought such a great depth and presence to the character of Bond.

I haven't seen want Dalton bond film yet, but I do think Daniel Craig also does a great job of that. I don't know if it is because of the spectacular writing, or his acting (both I suppose).

Re: The James Bond Discussion Thread

I rewatched Skyfall the other day. It's definitely one of the greatest.

The Living Daylights is a fun film. It was Dalton's first, and the first film after Roger Moore's run. Dalton's stage experience really shine through, and I really think he was the best actor to ever play Bond. There is a small part in his second film, that really stood out when I saw it. In it he spins around when the Bond girl bursts into the room, and almost shoots her. His facial expressions, and he way his hand is shaking, you really believe he was a moment away from wasting her right there. Moore could have never pulled that off.

Re: The James Bond Discussion Thread

Well, it finally happened. I have watched, every. single. film. in the EON productions series. I can now look forward to Bond 24 with a clear conscience.

Re: The James Bond Discussion Thread

Bond 24 title and cast will be announced at a press conference tomorrow. Rumors are that Christoph Waltz will be playing Blofeld, and Andrew Scott (Sherlock) will be also appearing in the film.

Re: The James Bond Discussion Thread

So...Spectre, and it was confirmed that Christoph Waltz will be a member of the cast. What do you guys think?

Have you seen a big-chinned boy?

Re: The James Bond Discussion Thread

Looking good so far. Cinematographer from Interstellar is involved, which is exciting.

Re: The James Bond Discussion Thread

Colonel Hans Landa is one of my favourite cinematic villains, so I have high hopes, even if Christoph Waltz's specific role hasn't been revealed.  I'm also curious to see how Andrew Scott factors in.

Re: The James Bond Discussion Thread

They are saying currently, that Waltz will be playing Bond's ski instructor from his youth. In the books, that character was murdered and Bond tracked down who was responsible. (I can see that being a nice cover for the Blofeld angle.) I am disappointed that David Arnold will once again not be scoring this film, Newman's score for Skyfall was ok, but didn't have that "Bond" feel to it. Oh well. Looking forward to FINALLY seeing a new film that gets to address SPECTRE and Blofeld properly.

^ Potential spoiler alert?

Anyway it is a shame Arnold's not composing the score, I had great fun playing some of the Casino Royale stuff recently. I agree about Skyfall lacking the 'Bond' musical feel and when it did try and hint at old motifs it felt kind of forced.

Most of that info was in the press release. And the book came out about 50 years ago. mini/bigsmile I agree 100% with you on the score. When I first watched Skyfall, it just seemed to be missing... something. I always loved how Arnold would integrate not only the Bond theme, but the movie's theme as well. It always gave the films a distinctive sound that others just didn't match.

Re: The James Bond Discussion Thread

That was awful for a trailer (time wise haha) I hope that was just a teaser and the title was deceiving. I loved skyfall for only a few things: Acting, cinematography, locations, and sound. Overall, it was a well rounded film, but I felt like it's one of those films where the writing wasn't that good, so they tried to sugarcoat it with amazing locations, exceptional cinematography, etc.

That is a teaser, they start shooting on Monday, so obviously there isn't anything to cut a trailer with yet. Um, you usually don't watch a James Bond movie for its writing and innovative plot. mini/bigsmile  The plot in a Bond film is usually just a vehicle for the character's adventures and exploits.

Re: The James Bond Discussion Thread

I guess I don't see why so many people like it then. Not saying that you need dialogue at all, but if you're going to have it, then at least make it good!

Re: The James Bond Discussion Thread

People don't go to the theater to watch a James Bond movie because of the deep, soul searching "artsy" plot. You go to see Bond get the girl, flit with Moneypenny, spar with M, use his Q branch gadgets and save the world from the forces of evil. You go to hear the iconic lines and to see how this Bond will introduce himself and sell his character to the audience. You watch them to go an adventure that you can't go on yourself, you go to escape and be entertained. That is why.
