Topic: Brick Flicks Book and Animation Contest

I've been asked by Sarah Herman, the author of a new book about LEGO animation, to let you know that she's running an animation contest.

I don't know a lot about the book, which comes out in November, but I do know that she interviewed a large number of people from this site for it, including myself. Nick Durron has produced a short promotional video for the book that is worth checking out!

In conjunction with the book, she is running an animation contest. For information about the contest, visit the contest information page.

Awesome! I hope I can join.

Re: Brick Flicks Book and Animation Contest

Sounds good!

Re: Brick Flicks Book and Animation Contest

I'd LOVE to join, but I'm real busy with my Halloween Movie. Could I just throw it in? It IS somethin' to do with a Magical Turn of Events, I guess. mini/lol

Re: Brick Flicks Book and Animation Contest

We have until December 31st, so maybe I'll have time to make something by then. However, with the LEGO prizes being unspecified, I'm afraid that most people will be slightly less motivated to work on a film that they would be if the LEGO prizes (besides the book, of course) were actually listed.

My feelings. These are my feelings.

To be honest, I don't know that a grand prize of three books I hadn't heard of before fires me up to enter. Sorry.

This is a "between projects" type of thing for me but I'm already on one and a half projects.  mini/confused

Re: Brick Flicks Book and Animation Contest

I agree with Jampot, the prizes do not fill me with desire to win, my motivation would be the publicity.

Re: Brick Flicks Book and Animation Contest

The submission via mail have to be sent exactly at 31st december or can be sent earlier?

Re: Brick Flicks Book and Animation Contest

Submissions can be sent before December 31st.

Re: Brick Flicks Book and Animation Contest

I've got a really good idea for this, I'll have to try and film it in the four days I'm home for Thanksgiving.

Re: Brick Flicks Book and Animation Contest

Looks pretty cool.

Re: Brick Flicks Book and Animation Contest

What credibility does this author have to write a guide about this stuff? Has she made her own films?

Agreed. It's a little odd to see the hobby being 'represented' by somebody who doesn't appear to be part of the community (unless I'm missing something).

Re: Brick Flicks Book and Animation Contest

I don't care that shes not part of the community, its not like shes using our name, its just how can someone write a guide on something if they've never done it themselves? mini/bigsmile

Re: Brick Flicks Book and Animation Contest

Remember that any book on the subject helps promote our hobby and an entry level book for beginners is hard to get wrong.  There is a wealth of information on the net about starting the hobby.  She's done something I'm too lazy too - put it into a book.  mini/tongue

This author might have a presence under a different name but I'll repeat, it would be great to see some films done by the author, or associated with the author.  She has done a few books on lego:

SARAH HERMAN s a freelance writer and editor with a number of non-fiction books under her belt. She holds a 1st class degree in Journalism and has worked for Summersdale Publishers, and Titan Publishing Group. She has also written for magazines including Star Wars Insider, Torchwood, and The Lab Magazine. Her first book DOES ANYTHING EAT !@#$? sold more than 30,000 copies. She has since written books about Facebook, famous assassinations, and LEGO among other things. Her latest book - Extreme Bricks - is out now.

I'm guessing she has an interest in lego and brick films and perhaps someone close to her is engaged in the hobby.

edit:  Here we go - she is or she's married to a lego nut - I mean husband.  mini/sunnies

She lives in England with her LEGO and her husband.

While I'm inclined to agree, she does appear to have interviewed a very large collection of us. So that's something.
