Topic: Does BiM have a Lego Ambassador?
Just some wondering about our representation with Lego.

I do not believe that Bricks in Motion has any affiliation with LEGO.

Yep.
If you think about it this isn't even a totally LEGO based site anyway. A person could post about mega block animations and it would fit the site (despite the fact most here wouldn't ever use clone brands if they can avoid it).
Sméagol was an Ambassadador back on Brickfilms.com, but didn't think much of it. Here's a short discussion about it.
Yeah, I was a LEGO ambassador for two years, from like 2010 to 2012 I think? If I talked to the right people I might be able to get us an invitation to nominate somebody again next year. It seemed like a lot of work to get into a forum devoted to very specific discussion of sets and production issues that I imagine isn't highly relevant to brickfilmers. But it's also probably true that somebody other than me might find more to do with it, and they have changed their PR staff up quite a bit since when I was an ambassador.
Assuming someone is accepted as an ambassador (for the sake of an example), would it be reasonable to attempt to get more official LEGO recognition for the brickfilming community? Probably the biggest problem that I can see with any sort of ambassador-ship is how small the private community is, but LEGO has definitely shown their interest in brickfilming, specifically, by commissioning brickfilms (Brotherhood, Paganomation, etc.) and having contests where videos can be submitted.
Yeah. Without getting into details, I didn't get a strong sense that the ambassador system was an effective way to put forward those ideas back in 2012. It felt more like it was a sounding board for LEGO to get answers from AFOLs about ideas/opinions for their products. I suppose with the leverage of The LEGO Movie it might possible to get something going, though.
I don't think it would get LEGO involved in the brickfilming community any more. Paganomation got commissioned because he went to lots of festivals showing off "Little Guys!". Brotherhood Workshop got commissioned because his video went viral on YouTube. Most of the time, LEGO uses Tongal.com to get stop-motion instead of commissioning people. I actually like the way LEGO is doing it, because it gives everybody a chance instead of LEGO people picking out the "best". (But, of course, I know nothing about how the program works, but I would doubt that they use it to find new brickfilmers).
These completely rebooting their system for this. (Which is why I thought of it in the first place.)

I was just searching the web for LUGs in my area (which sadly, there is only one LUG in my entire state!), and I stumbled upon this:
It's the LEGO Ambassador Network. I just thought I'd show you the link.

There is a LUG with a branch in my city, but they only allow 18+ which is super annoying.

Looking at that site's map there are 2 in my state (I think the rest are pretty much dc)...one is brickipedia .
For being the one physical lug of the two I'm glad it's close.
I don't see a reason for us having an ambasador because that program's main focus (from what I can tell) is lugs and lugs have to participate in public displays, which require physical LEGO creations while this site's main content is digital. We could have an ambassador but we would be far out of the program's focus.

Fortunately most of the members in my lug have young children so they went lax on age limit which was already in the teens anyway. Could you go if a parent became a member?

I know San Antonio has a branch too (in fact, I was at a LEGO convention there last summer, and one of the LUG members talked to me about it a little, but I knew I could never maintain a consistent membership there because of the fact that I don't actually live there). That's why there's always these little 10-year-olds handling the LEGO at all the conventions and getting to go to the adult meetings that I can't get into. I've always found it a little painful to watch these awesome LEGO sets and not be able to touch them or "play" with them when kids who are younger than me can.
Are you in Texas too, Mickey?
